Clinton's welfare-to-work programs are still, well, working. There must be something around to act as a vehicle to put those on welfare back to work. If there wasn't, those people would have an excuse to stay on welfare. The government must take away their excuses or they'll be on welfare til doomsday.

    Keep digging.

I'd check at a local community college's financial aid office. There's something called a Pell Grant some have used to get free training or retraining. Again, there MUST be something out there. The government has made sure of it.

Is Crete one of those companies that invites you to orientation without first verifying your past employers and then keeps you on edge not knowing if you are hired until the last day of orientation. I know that is how Crst,JB and USexpress do it and that sucks.

I was pre-hired before going to Crete's orientation. I don't know if that is how it is with all new hires. Maybe I just got lucky.

Yes, US Express does like to pull that trick--recruiter promises a candidate the world just to get him to orientation. If he is approved by the gatekeepers, good. If not, then with those guys it's "next candidate please". I went to a USEx orientation in Salt Lake once and they kept me hanging most of the entire five days before rejecting me late in the afternoon of day 5. I was a college student and they didn't want to hire someone on who would be merely a temp working summers-only. They had a problem with this. I wish they would have just told me a lot sooner. Luckily, I lived maybe 15 minutes away from the terminal, so it was all good.

Here in Texas its thru the Texas Work Force...or the unemployment office. Try at your local state unemployment office. Or call a school you are interested in and they should be able to point you to all the places that they recieve payments for their students training. I know here in Texas, they pay for the schooling, and gas or bus passes. So it seems to attract a lot of people who might not otherwise be interested in trucking. But, don't give up...where there's a will there's a way.

Whatever you do, keep your wallet in your pocket where it belongs. Do NOT go paying for any truck driving training using your own funds. It's not worth it, plus you don't know if you'll like it enough to justify the cost. And there is this--training has been jacked through the roof thanks to government grants in the welfare-to-work program. One more volley--when you go to training, you'll have to absorb what is called the "opportunity cost" of the training. This is a cost you'll have to absorb because you'll be in school and not working. My schooling was 5 weeks, so my opportunity cost was about 800 a week x 5 weeks, or 4 grand. When I add this to my tuition price, I see I paid over 9K for training.

Knowing all this, you should absolutely go cheap or get a grant yourself. This trucker training thing is a huge racket, and you should play the game.

I was an idiot and paid for my training using my own funds. Every day of the world I wish I had that big chunk of change back in my pocket, and it's been almost 13 years since it left my pocket. I feel like I should pass the hat around and see if I can get some of that back. Are you going to be saying this in 2020?

Ive just completed the first half of the 8 week training and am satisfied with the company so far. My trainer was pleasent and dispatch seemed to have it together(even when I made a couple mistakes on the Qualcom). Loads were given quickly after 'emptying out' and everyone was nice to deal with. They expect you to drive 8 hours daily or 500 miles, which was no problem. I come home to find Christmas cards and a birthday card too. My experience has been wonderful so far. I am looking forward to the coming weeks and getting my own truck!

Yes, I recently graduated this Dec from school in Lincoln, NE and we had
three students already lined up with Crete Carrier, and a few more went
with them upon graduation. Their Florida terminal is in Deland, FL. Have'nt
found a recruiters email though... You are however on the right track to a
    good company.

As I just graduated from SCC Lincoln a week ago, I do know we had 3 students who were all lined up to go to CCC upon graduation and that
their recruiter would come in from time to time after class to visit with
those students and others who were interested. I know CCC works very
close with the College as they provided trucks and trailers. Whether they
offer a training program with the college -or- recomend the college, I can't
say and I didn't ask. Hope this helps
