I'm in Texas, have zero criminal history, clean driving record, never worked for the government, etc. I have passed the exam and done all the paperwork including the fingerprinting.

Applied for a cdl job locally. The boss asked if I have hazmat. I said no, but I have done all the paperwork. She asked when. I said I squared it all away this monday. She said it has been taking all her new hires 8 months on average to get the hazmat endorsement after doing all the paperwork.

At DPS, they told me that it would take maybe a month. But since the government is what it is, I am inclined to be skeptical.

Any other Texans here experience long waits to get the hazmat endorsement?

it shouldn't take long for HAZ.

I got mine in just under 2 weeks.

I got my passport within just over 2 weeks.

I don't believe I got any preferential treatment:biggrin_255: so sit tight, it won't be long.

The fingerprinting part is done by a company most states hire to do it. So if the state is backed up with paperwork it usually wont effect your hazmat processing. I also got mine in about 2 weeks, but I live in Ohio. I am not certain what paperwork she meant took 8 months. Does Texas have something other than the written test and fingerprinting? If they use the same procedure most everone else does you should be able to go get your endorsment in a week or so.

I know Texas sometimes likes to do things their own way so it is worth asking if they have some other requirement or processing in addition to the normal.

Sorry I cant offer more precise answers, but good luck to you!

    Hi didntitellu. :)

All I did was take the exam, fill out a form for the background check, and then the fingerprinting (which cost me 78.20). I'm not sure if they do anything different from other states, but HR lady that told me average 8 month wait has her new hires fingerprinted in some place in Dallas. So this might be a case of a private company dropping the ball.

At any rate, i like the sound of 1-4 weeks. :)

I think each state has the task of hiring private companies to do the actual fingerprinting, which is passed electronicaly to the TSA (Fed). I always thought it was DHS... Point is, either are federal agencies and once they get the prints, the individual state is out of the loop. Eight months sounds a bit ridiculous. Could be HR was just shining ya on. FWIW, I got my letter two weeks after rolling my fingers. Good luck to you.

    Hi munrkr. :)

Say, tell me, which agency was it that mailed you your letter? Did you get it from DMV, DPS, TSA, do you remember?

Reason I ask is, I have been having a spot of trouble lately getting my mail delivered. Just a couple of pieces so far have been returned to the sender, without ever having made it to me. If I don't get my letter in a month, I will have to call the appropriate authority and make sure it wasn't returned to them.

Sure. Letter was from Transportation Security Administration. Deemed, "...No security threat under 49 CFR 1572.15(d)(1). Tsa will notify the state that you may obtain or renew your HME."
