Well....so much for him getting home tonight. OR tomorrow night. His truck still isn't completely fixed. I believe they are sending him on tomorrow and he'll have to stop in Cleveland...?...for more repairs. He lost a whole day, and probably another in Ohio...which stinks...because it means he won't get home as soon as we hoped. (which not counting his 'few hour visits' means he will have been out about a MONTH before he gets time off!!)

Can ya tell I'm getting pissy? ;) (trying reeeally hard not to show it to him)

Hopefully that big fat paycheck will take some of the sting away!!! ;)

Seriously, too bad about hubby's hometime going awry (thanks to the truck); I have been talking to PMTG for a bit now, and have even been accepted, I am just trying to decide between them and another co (tanker). So I have been lurking around these threads lately.

Unfortunately that's OTR trucking (as you already know)- delays and setbacks, and that can be on a good day! Hopefully hubby gets a better truck soon!

    Thanks Wallbanger!

Don't know how fat that paycheck will be...last week's(his 1st week of loads) was about as skinny as a toothpick after they took out that advance. :biggrin_2559: Hopefully they will start getting better...they should, because he's working his tail off. I think he's putting the max in as far as allowed mileage in a week...so that's GOT to pay off. We will see him briefly tomorrow night, dropping 3 loads here in town.

I usually try to keep that positive outlook, if nothing else, at least on the OUTSIDE. ;) I definitely don't want to bring him down, Lord knows he's working his tail off for US.

If you do accept the job, good luck to you! Dh really likes the company, and luckily doesn't mind hard work. :biggrin_2559: If you head down to Greer, the trainers down there are tough, but dh says they are GREAT guys.

Sorry about the truck trouble. I'm assuming he was sent to Midway in Monroeville,OH for repairs. They are probably the best vendor we use. They are usually quick and fix it right the first time. Wallbanger, the trainers are tough down there but they are good guys. I hope you make the move over here. As far as Manhattan goes, it really isn't bad. There are 2 dealers we deliver to down there and they are right around the corner from each other. I was in there on back-to-back days last week. To go to either dealer you only make really 3 turns the whole way and they aren't tight at all. Thanks for the respect on running regional. I grew up here so alot of areas I go to I kinda knew before I started here. This has been a slower week than I'm used to. I haven't been running hard at all. I have deliver 4 loads so far and have (I know you don't want to read this) been home every night. I have a load of BMWs going to Arlington,VA for the morning then back up to Baltimore for a load back up north. As far as those Auto Elite trucks, the company needs to get another year out of those things just to break even with them and then they are supposed to weed them out of the system. The company has been busy buying new equipment. They just purchased 12 2008 Petes with 7 car Cottrell quick load trailers. These are only being used in the northeast out of Port Newark,NJ. Latest word is that sometime in the spring of '08 they will be putting more 9 car enclosed units into service. I don't know if they will be Petes or Western Stars. They are supposed to buy 1 of each and use them as prototypes and get feedback on each then order either 1 or the other. Tell Dh to hang in there and it seems like he has the right attitude for the job. Attitude goes EXTREMELY far in this company. You treat the company right, and they will take care of you.

Not all the time. Like I said, I do stay out a few nights a week. You leave orientation in your truck then deadhead to Greer,SC for a 1 week training. If you have a sleeper, you are expected to use it. You can get a hotel if you want, it'll be out of your pocket though. During training, you are in a nice suite about 15 minutes away from BMW in Greenville,SC. During orientation the company puts you up with a roommate in a standard room at the Comfort Inn. You don't pick your loads. You get what is given to you. You will not get past the house EVERY night. Living in the Delaware Valley, you will see the house alot though. I hope this clears up any misconception you may have and help you with your decision.

I don't know if this is the right answer and I'm probably not qualified to answer, Duhaney....but my dh said that now he sees BMT/Tri-Star everywhere(maybe because he's looking for them? lol)! Maybe you're just looking for Precision and not realizing alot of the trucks are actually Bavarian or Tri-Star?

RM...yes, we too believe a good attitude goes along way... really, in life! ;) Dh won't work for a company he doesn't 'believe' in...he's a salesman by nature, and if he can't talk good about a company, he doesn't want any part of it. Knowing him, he's probably one of PMTG's biggest 'vocal supporters' out there and they don't even know it. LOL!!!

So...the saga continues for my dear husband. ;) He spent a whole day sitting in the shop in Greer, and didn't get out till the next morning(yesterday). They never did get the lights working perfectly. THis morning he was headed out of a little town in south central IL, when he discovered the lights went out AGAIN. He's NOT a happy camper... he may have a great attitude but he's extremely impatient. He delivers in Springfield (IL) this morning, then straight to STL to drop 3 more loads before dark. Then he parks it here for the night and heads to the shop tomorrow. It's either in MI or Ohio, he confused me when he said something about Okemos, I thought previously he had said Ohio. Whatever, really doesn't matter, but he is thinking he could be down for DAYS. :( He's got a long list that needs to be repaired so he might as well get it all done now.

He was torn at first about wanting a sleeper...but now that we're trying to get a list going of decent parkable motels on the CLC list, I think this situation is just fine with him. :) I would think it's kinda nice being able to spread out on a real bed and watch the news and not wait in line for a shower. ;) Plus, once he gets his truck problems all fixed, does he REALLY want to give it up and move on to a new one? (kind of like a relationship, you get used to all your partner's quirks and the thought of having to re-learn someone new's quirks is really NOT attractive at all!)

Thanks for the conversation...it helps me feel like I'm more involved in this crazy trucking world. :biggrin_25526:

Mrs. Skid, if he has to get the truck fixed in Okemos, then he will be up here in the Wolverine (Okemos is just outside Lansing). Hopefully they fix it right, and quickly.
Glad that the forum is helping you feel more comfortable with trucking; your supportive and patient attitude goes a long way towards making a tough situation more bearable.

The shop actually is in Williamston, the office is in Okemos. At least up there he should be able to get alot of work done to the truck. I don't know where it is now or if it's still open but 2101 was my old truck and it was a good running truck. If he has to swap out to get back going until his is fixed, maybe he can move into that one. I have another straight shot for tomorrow delivery in Greenwich,CT. A load of Porsches. I had to brush the snow off of the windows just to read the VIN plates. I won't move snow from the paint. I am not getting blamed to scratches due to snow and ice. I simply mark my paperwork"snow covered, could not inspect outside of vehicles." I probably have a few extra pounds on the load with the 4 inches of snow on each vehicle. I didn't scale it, but I knew I was legal.
