Trucking in general. Of course I'm a little biased here since I work LTL, but I've also done OTR. I find that my knees tend to give me problems after sitting for long periods of time. But then they also give me problems when doing a lot of climbing in and out of trucks and trailers.

What are the average rates for transporting gasoline from the terminal to the stations locally? Ive been trying to find info but I can't find anything.

Do the they pay per mile or a weekly flat rate. I was thinking it was about 2$ a mile but i dont know.

I drive for Fla Rock and Tank lines in SC. I have never encountered a fuel tanker without baffles.Even the Tankers we pull have 5 compartments 3000 gal, 1500 gal, 1200 gal, 1000 gal, 2500 gal and the 3000,1500 and 2500 gal compartments have baffles in them. smooth bore tankes are used in the food, chemical and haz-waste transportation and the reason for this is you can not clean a baffled tank without going in side and cleaning ever weld on the baffles. I have pulled them all and if the driver is just starting out they should start out with a baffled tanker beacuse if you never pulled a smooth bore tanker you are in for a very rude awaking. all I can say is don't leave the terminal without a full jar of nerve pills cause you are going to need them. As far as making money hauling gas and fuel it is a good way to make a living and it is as safe as any other driving jobs. The tankers are strong and and all kinds of safety thing built into them I have seen the roll 2 time and not spill a drop we have a company that parks with us have a tank come unhooked after loading 9000 gals of gas as he was pulling out of the fuel terminal and it hit the ground so hard it pushed the king pin thru the plate and did not break the tank. Love pulling gas but I love pulling JET-A fuel better less work and that is what I am dedicated on now. Our JET-A tanks are 4 compartment because the fuel terminals will not allow single compartments because the containment areas would not hold a single compartment spill. We do have a few 4 compartment tanks made into 2 compartment tanks.

It is different depending on the area you are in. I pull fuel out of Belton SC to Greenville, Anderson and Spartinburg South Carolina it is about a 15min ride to a Anderson store and about a 25 min ride to a Greenville store and 45 min to the GSP airport in Spartinburg we get $38.95 for Anderson $39.45 for Greenville and $53.25 for Spartinburg stores and airport. We also get 025 a minute for waiting time and we do not have to give up any time if I pull into a station and can't get to my drops because they are blocked I start collecting that right away and it comes out to $15.00 per hour paid to the minute. Now if you live around a big city like Atlanta Ga the rates seem to be higher because of the traffic and the stress of that. The ins at Fla Rock is the best I have ever had in my 38 yrs of driving the work is easy sometimes the weather makes you want to through up your hands and call it quits but for the most part you can make a good living and spend all your money trying to live on the road. I spent about 35 yrs on the road and made good money till I looked at what it cost me to live and all I missed at home. hope this helped you all I can say is stay with a large company like Fla Rock, Eagle Tank Lines. If you are in Tampa check out Fla Rock and Tank they are hiring in Tampa and offering bounces to sign on and if you put down someones name on your app than both of you get the bonus oh my name is (Dennis Clay) lol. Good luck and Happy Gas Hauling

Hello, do you know if Fla Rock and Tank has a strict policy on the recent experience. I drove 20 years ago and went back last spring and got my CDL A back. But I only stayed with the company couple months not thinking it would be that bad, my bad. Also if you know about Eagle, I will put your name down....

Our small trucks that hauled 9000 gallons only had bulkheads because the compartments were too small. On our super tankers we had bulkheads with baffles on the larger compartments. We drove truck and trailers which are much different than a semi. You drive one and you'll never want to go back. Of course all is gone now since the majors are selling out, but I rode the cash cow as long as I could before I retired early. Took the golden handshake and only get up early for a good tee time or the fish are running.
