lights or no lights

ive pondered over this for a little while, but never posted this.

when you park in a truck stop/rest area...

do you leave your parking lighs on or turn off all your lights?

it seams to be a mixed batch everynight, just wondering what everyones thoughts are...

I leave my park lights on, makes it easier for other trucks to park around me IMO and if in a rest area on side of road lets drivers know I am there before the time their headlights would see me.

I leave mine on. It helps Swifty see my truck when he's blindside backing in next to me.

You mean right before he tears your passanger side mirror off, right?

I leave my lights on sometimes; the truck has to be running, and I am parked in a rest area, on the end of the row (in a truckstop), or if I am parked on an on/off ramp. Otherwise if I can shut the truck off, I usually will and then shut the lights off too.

it depends on where you're parked,,,,,,this is my opinion..

if you're parked in a rest area and you're parked anywhere near the actual travel lane.... I would turn your lights off. There are many 4 wheelers, the young ones especially who might not have a clue, tend to follow ' the lights ' . They may not realize you're actually stopped and run right into you !!!! If your lights are off, they most likely will be paying more attention to where they want to go instead of thinking that you're moving and 'follow' you. You'd be surprised ( well maybe not ) at how so many people are paying attention to everything except where they are going !!!! They are talking, smoking, reading, sleeping, fighting, yelling at kids, eating, drinking, looking down at the white line, etc, etc.....!!! Next thing you know, you are awakened by a thump. End of story. That's just an opinion. Anything can happen anywhere, anytime.!!

Lightbulb Be Seen

Yes...I park with my clearance and marker lights ON.

I think it's being defensive.
One of the chief rules of "The Smith System" (Defensive driving course) is to "BE SEEN".

Have you ever pulled into a truck stop late at night, and you're tired...to the point where all you want to do is set those brakes?
Well...so you're tired...
and there's only one parking spot on the whole lot. So you set yourself up to back into it, and along with wishing you had gotten there when it was daylight out, you also wish at least one of the other trucks on either side of the empty spot, had left their clearance lights on, so you could have something to judge by.

I've been hit a few times when parked in designated parking spots, when I did NOT have my lights on.
(While eating, and / or showering--away from my truck.)
But I have NEVER been hit when I DID have my lights on. (knock on wood.)

Only my thoughts...That's my take on it.

I park with no lights. My truck is turned off so the battery would just go dead.
