company drivers

what kind of expenses are there for company drivers? Do the drivers have to pay for fuel? Lodging? I would like to get an otr job, but I'm not sure what it's like. Can anyone give me a brief decription of a day on the road?

as a company driver you would not have to pay for your own fuel. you wont have to pay for lodging, you will have a sleeper. the only expenses that i can think of are tolls, scale tickets, lumper fees,etc... food is also an expense so i would invest in a cooler or refrig and stock up my truck at a supermarket or wally-world

hey datsun, I can only speak from past experience. Typically the company pays for fuel. About the only time they will pay for lodging is if your truck is in the shop for repairs. Basically, you drive, sleep, drive etc. The only way to make money is keep the tires rolling and doors shut. BTW, Im from Salem, good to see another Oregonian here.

My dh drives OTR w/o a sleeper, so it's motels every night for him. Company pays for the rooms (on a CLC card), BUT if he cannot find a motel on that card list that he can park at, WE pay out of pocket for the room. By the time it's turned in and reimbursed, it can be 3 weeks we're out of the $. (last week he rang up $200 in motel costs that we have to wait to be reimbursed for....ugh!!!)

My company pays for my fuel, lumper fees, scale tickets, and any tolls I have paid out of pocket are reimbursed to me...you have a sleeper but if I had to get a motel due to tractor repairs they will pay that too.. if your truck has a refrig thats great and if not a cooler will work....food is your expense that is why its best to have your own food on the truck...good luck
