Bad Experience with Trainer Been with this trainer for 9 days and he constantly yells at me. Have thought about requesting at new trainer but worried about retaliations. Now I have a sour taste my mouth for this company and I am not sure I want to do OTR. What will happen if I opt out of this point if I want try for a position with a local company? Thanks

| Odds aren't good- most local companies will want some amount of first seat (aka solo) experience. Is it the trainer's demeanor that bothers you most, or is it everything (trainer, OTR lifestyle, etc.) all together? If it is everything, then OTR may not be for you- and hey, don't feel bad, it's not for everyone. If it's the trainer, then you may want to request another trainer. However, you may have to wait for trainer. I would suggest that if you can take it, finish up your time with the a-hole, and get on your way. Good luck!

Yeah, let this kook yell himself.. to sleep. just do your job and try not to let it get to you. you already went 9 months with this lunatic right? or did I read it wrong ? another few months and you might only lose a little more hair but you'll pull thru. meanwhile... see if you can piss him off somehow that won't come back to haunt you later. i'll be thinkin' what you can do also. hhmm...let's see.....

correction..... ok it's 9 days not months. hhmm...... just try to think about it as not being a personal attack on you. he's probably mad at the whole world anyway. but if you can innocently make him even redder in the face without causing a problem for yourself, go for it. it's cool when these bigshots can't settle down and make fools outta themselves.

From what I see there are 2 basic types of trainers. The type that is in it only for the extra money. And the kind that cares about trucking and what type of driver they help produce, the kind that wants to offer their experience and help a new driver transition into his/her new career. Unfortunately the later type is getting harder and harder to find. I also had a bad experience with my trainer, so I will offer my advise....what I now regret not doing. Reuest a new trainer!! The bottom line is the person you start out with will help mold and shape you and your career. If you have a bad one, you will not get the benefit of the wisdom and experience that we need to really have a strong start in this industry. Your time with a trainer can be the most valuable part of your training phase. Dont let a guy who only wants the money rob you of what will benefit you for years and years to come. I made that mistake and I still ask questions over the CB that are things I should already know. I feel like my start suffered as a result of a horrible trainer. Please make the best of your time by getting someone you are comfortable with and who really is in it to help you suceed. The people here have been a tremendous asset to me. But sadly while I am on the truck I cant seek their help of advise. Dont let someone elses shortcomings carry over into your new career. Any company that will not allow you to do that is not worth staying with anyway.

So does the trainer (Man or Woman or.......) Yell at other's also? Kindess kills the KAT , take the trainer and apple and roll of tums, give them when the two of ya are in the truck...................If the situation excels itself by YOUR act of KINDNESS And he or she or , flips their lid.................do no more.......pay attention to your learning abilities and stay focused...........do not let this trainer see you SWEAT...........................I am allergic to yelling..........and have handled it in many ways.............................

You could request another trainer, or ignore him so you can learn to drive under stress. I have driven a car with someone who kept yelling at me and I just wanted to leave him at the next gas station and speed away.
