Any other Suggestions???

Also, I have heard that there are a few R/A’s that have walking trails, such as one on Donner Pass, does anyone know of any other R/A's that have trails?
And lastly, if you had some extra time on a route, what Places (National Parks ect) do you suggest to stop at that are close to interstates and have truck parking. Is this even something that may be possible or are we dreaming?
Thanks for all your suggestions and advice! It is very much appreciated!

Tail of the Dragon

Avoid Tail of the Dragon and other tourist routes, even if they do by-pass the scales.

Multnomah Falls.....

In Oregon ( beautiful state ) off I-84 , maybe an hour or so east of Portland. You can park in the rest area and walk the trail . It ascends and you can walk over a pedestrian bridge and view the falls. They are quite high up and it's nice to take a break and do that. I did that back in 1990 , so if anything has changed I wouldn't know.

Worst hills I 64 EB in West Va. The Sandstone grade, east of Beckley, 7% grade for 5 miles. Its a steady 7% all the way to the bottom.
The second day after they opened that road I took a wild ride down it. If your loaded heavy use caution.
Wolf Creek Pass US 160 between Pagosa Springs and South Fork Col.

Hwys to avoid Us 60 from Belle W Va to I 64
The already mentioned "Tail of the dragon" US 129 Tn/NC line
US 50 from Grafton W Va to Md/Va state line

Worst traffic New York, Boston, Washington DC, Atlanta, Chicago, and LA.

I don't have enough posts for link posting yet, but in the "The Truck Stops Here"
sub-forum, there is a sticky thread entitled

"What are the safest and most dangerous truckstops??"

as well as 2 threads entitled "Clean Showers" and "Worst Showers"

Hope this helps...

if you think I-64 is bad come take a run on forty here in south Pa. there are 13 and 15% downslopes on it and the last 3 miles takes 30 minutes to go down. i have done it once to say been there, done that but now i avoid forty like i avoid the lot lizards in the truck stops.

Yeah I forgot about 40. I've to run from Keyser's Ridge to Uniontown a few times. That one hill just before Uniontown is really steep.

just a couple

careful on US40 over muddy/rabbit ears pass in colorado, a few tight corners, some wild life, and some shady places that get and/or stay icy.

US 550 from montrose to durango colorado. absolutely incredible scenery, not exactly a legal truck route. i ran it in the dark with a 48' landoll. never again!!

US 160 over wolf creek, not really that bad, unless it's night time in the winter. i've run it in a wrecker towing a loaded tractor and 53' trailer.

I70, in the mountains- avoid during ski traffic times, west bound in the mornings, and east bound at night. way too many stupid, tired, and sometimes drunk drivers, even if it ain't snowing.

I70, colorado, east bound off eisenhower tunnel, just before you get to the bottom, from silverplume (MM225 to MM229) it drops off hard, curves left around the face of a cliff, and there is nowhere to go WHEN not IF traffic backs up, just out of sight at the bottom, usually because some driver smoked his brakes.

also, 9 mile, drops down eastbound, west of green river utah, long with a nasty right in the middle
