| Time Off I like to work hard, but as an older worker I'm not sold on the idea that being a workaholic is good. Most of the OTR driving seems to be 10-15 days or more on the road, and then 1-2 days off--clearly less time off than the average worker. Now I figure that both the company and driver need to keep the wheels turning to make money with the rig, but how does one tell the company that extended time is needed for other personal activities, such as a trip to Europe or Asia? Do most companies provide for leave of absence without pay? Or, does the driver have to quit and then pick up another job later? |

| It really depends on the company. Everywhere is different. Yes, it is a lot less time off than most other jobs but it's a job most people do because they love trucking, not because they're comparing it to your average 9-5 job. |

| I agree it depends on the company you work for...I get one day for every week I am out....so I usually stay out for one month and then I get four days on hometime....the reason I continue working as a trucker is I love my job, and it gets rough sometimes but overall its a good job....

| I get 3 personal paid days a year plus 3 weeks paid vacation - 6 sick days paid and allowed 48 hours off with 8 trips and 72 hours off with 12 trips... also I can take a 36 hour break any time I want onve a week... I am home in my own bed 4 nights a week - usually run 2500 miles a week withing a 600 mile radius of cincinatti... I can hit the "sick" board any time I want for up to 72 hours - but after that I have to have a doctors note... any abscence more than 4 days is considered a vol. quit. etc etc
