Guy in the shop hooked me up with a new mattress, so I am recinding my rant. Things have been going good and the truck I got will be good once I scrub it from head to toe, so like someone said, I'm just gonna laugh this one off.

But yeah, it should be mandatory that a new mattress be put in for each new driver. That thing was gross.

So take the truck home and clean the crap out of it and put a good mattress cover on it after you soak it in Febreeze and hope it gets better. We got a dirty truck before - not quite that bad but, yeah, it stunk. Citrus cleaners are great and about six hours of good scrubbing and cleaners and it was fine. If this is the WORST thing that happens to you in trucking, you'll be laughing about it some day :)

Also, try turning the mattress over - maybe it's better on the other side. You can also get a 1" foam for them from Wal-Mart for about $10 so put that on top, put a mattress cover on it and at least you know you're on clean stuff and it should smell better with Febreeze. Depending on where you are, if you can put it OUTDOORS in the sunshine for even 24 hours and overnight, it'll help a lot. Sunshine can work miracles on stinky things :)

years ago I used to be a trainer and one of the pieces of advice I would give is to go to the terminal manage and at least demand a new mattress you have no idea what was done on that nasty old thing, if a company cannot spring for a new mattress then its time to look for another company

    Only about $175 for a 42x80

That'd be worth it for me to know I'm not sleeping on somebody else's sex stains and who knows what else. Gross.

Yup, very true. And they say they're about $500 'cause they're too clueless to buy from cheap places!! They buy from "truck suppliers" and such who charge a fortune for everything!!!!!

In Alberta as of January 1st it is illegal to smoke in the work place, and this now includes work vehicles. Some of the smoking drivers are incensed by this, but Hopfrog would not be having half the problems with his 'new' truck if the previous drivers hadnt smoked in it. Its going to be a tough one to enforce, but it sure will be nice for people taking over trucks from smokers, as well as those people who slipseat.

Not gonna happen. It's been illegal in Nova Scotia to smoke in the workplace for years now. Truckers still smoke in trucks. Nothing's going to stop that or you'll have no truckers on the road.
