What food can I pack entering U.S.

Just starting out and going for my first trip with the trainer next week. I'm in Canada and will be driving into the U.S. I was told I can bring a cooler but that I can't bring any fruits, vegetables or meats across the border.

Just looking for ideas on what to pack for food. I can't find the official information on what I can and can't bring into the States and would like to be sure I don't have to leave anything at the border. I was told no fruits, veg or meat but think there may be more to it.

This aint gonna help you much, but my 2 cents here is that I have crossed into Canada and back into the states dozens of times in the last 10 years and every time with a cooler of various groceries, although I dont think I had any vegtables. I did have meat however. A few years ago, the USDA had a temporary ban on bringing ruminent meat into the states, but that ban was lifted back around 2004 give or take a year.

I am certain that you can NOT take potatos into Canada. Also, you are alowed 1 carton of smokes, duty free, going back into Canada.

I think worse case, if you do endup trying to bring some kind of banned food accross the border, either direction, they'll simpley make you throw it in the trash. You should see the countless garbage cans full of potatos at the border.

I have been asked if I have any fresh meat. There was something awhile ago about North Dakota U.S. customs confiscating sandwiches.
