CRE, CFI, Schneider...

Hi folks...

I'm still new here. I am the guy who is going to be training in Salt Lake City for England. But after reading a lot of this forum, I decided to just see what other options might be on the table. I tried calling Schneider twice. Monday (MLK Day) and again on Tuesday and both times I was on hold for over an hour. I couldn't stay on. So I filled an application out on Tuesday and got an auto-response saying if I am going to be pre-hired, they would call within 1-3 business days. Well, no call.

So I just stumbled upon another site called CFI - do they train? I am going to call them on Monday I guess.

Does anyone have or know where I can get a list of all trucking companies that train? I am determined and I have been studying the manual and taking practice tests and I have no doubts about my ability to pass the test all together. (I'm not being cocky, I just know I can do it if I put my mind to it and I am determined to get into the industry).

However, I don't want to just go to some truck driving school that isn't a company. I want a company that guarantees work upon completion of training. A company that trains.

Anyone have a list or can maybe ramble some companies off that are not only looking for drivers, but TRAIN as well and will accept someone like me who is a total beginner.

Thanks. This forum has been very helpful for me thus far.

Well for one, your location sucks, lol.

Im not sure how many companies are hiring in NY. You need to keep in mind that many many truckers HATE driving in NY and because of that, some companies specifically do not deliver there; hence making it harder for you to get hired on with some companies.

As for Schneider, Im one of their drivers...not sure what to tell you as I got a phone call the day after I submitted the online app.

There is a split (it seems to me) view on Schneider, love em or hate em....but there seems to be a overall agreement that their training program is one of the best for inexperienced drivers. SOmething to keep in mind.

Hmm, trying to think of other companies. Swift is one, but you have to keep something in mind....

If companies have training programs, that means they are going through a bunch of employees, and have high turnover. Bad sign.

CFI

I called CFI earlier today myself. They told me you pay $1,000 for the school plus housing (total around $1,700) School takes 2 weeks to complete, then they put you in the truck with a trainer for 7200 miles at 26 cents a mile. When you go solo, they pay 30 cents a mile and after one year, they pay 36 cents. I asked them how many miles they run a week, he said the average is 2500 miles. I hope this helps

YES! That's what happened with Swift. I called them first and when I told them my zip code, they said "Oh, I'm sorry, we don't hire out of that part of the country" lol

Then I called CR England and they seemed very intent on taking me in. But then I saw from here what they can be like. Perhaps I'll just be OK with them - who knows.

Also, I am thinking maybe last week was just a crazy week with the MLK day and all - I don't know. Also, it's possible that I could have simply missed their call. But I also have a message machine, so they would have left one, no?

I don't know. I guess I'll call them again Monday and also that CFI company out in Missouri - i think.

I'll also check out that site mandiesel pointed me to.

Thanks to you both and a thanks in advance to any future replies to help me out here!

Oh boy. So I would need the grand up front or do they finance? Everything else sounds pretty good, though. But I don't know if I can get the 1,000 dollars in advance right now. The other companies I spoke to so far did not ask for that much. CR England wants 90 bucks and I bring my own spending money.

Are you sure they don't finance?

As with anyhting in life. You get what you pay for.

While I'm NOT a CFI fan. I do recommend them for new/student drivers. The training is good. And, your first year pay will be worth the effort. They use students to move lots of freight. So you get miles, and money.

ZIGGY,Did you go to schneider with your CDL already in hand or did you have to pay them. I have my CDL and did the online stuff with them someone called me the next day to tell me there was a dedicated account for sears I could get on .I told her I was inexperienced and was looking for the training part like as a B seat for 6-8 weeks like these other companys have .She said yes she knows that she said i would have to pay like 4500 bucks fifty bucks a week.I said why would I pay for training I already have my cdl why would I pay again? Was she wrong or did misunderstand ? Is this what you had to do?
