Trucking Industry Meltdown?

A newbie driver friend with Schneider reports a slowdown of activity due to the economic slowdown. Is this a meltdown or a seasonal slowdown that will pick up in summer?

This is usually the slowest time of the year for trucking, but I have to throw the economy in there as well as we ourselves have never been this slow.

it's the slow part of the year seasonally but it's also a presiential election year with no incumbant running. I don't know why but that always seems to make for a bad year. I can look over mine and my fathers tax filings over the years and it shows the pattern. This is something we have been discussing the last month or so

Talking

Meltdown LOL.... Oh yes, it's a coming.

Aside from the normal slowdown in freight this time of year. Schneider has lost 2 MAJOR accounts. Ooops.

I want to take time to thank the drivers and dispatch for dropping the ball on those accounts.

While I'm at it, I want to thank Werner too. Keep up the great work guys. We want the miles

I have to agree "meltdown."

I think there will be many more small and midsize outfits selling out in the coming year. There seems to be alot of consolidation going on and the choicest runs will be diverted to the new owners while the scraps are left for the drivers that stay thru the buyout.

I point to Rude trucking and P+P bought out by New Century and now TRL selling out to Prime as 2 examples of this within the past few months.

Its going to get mighty ugly so we better get our financial houses in order and be sure we got some savings set aside.
