Getting CDL Class B, who will hire?

    The only two companies that I know of that train husband and wife team grads together are Covenant and Interstate. There may be a few others out there, but I have not found them. That fact was a big reason we chose Interstate and we have no regrets about doing so.

    I think Interstate will be hiring newbie grads again soon. As for Covenant, they have a crap reputation, but you would train together and if you could put up with them for a year you would be good to go at any company. I don't know about you, but I can put up with just about any employer for a year.

    Go the the DMV and get the CDL book they give for free. Study it for the written part of the exam. Go out and rent a straight truck, go over the Pretrip inspection (in the back of the book) with your wife. Remember, you do not have to point to the exact item you are describing just in the general direction when taking the DMV test. (such as "check the tires for for 2/32 on drive tires, front, and 4/32 on the rear tires as you point toward the tires then go on to say you should check for cracks or bulges on the tire then going into the brakes while still pointing toward the tires, not difficult at all) Rent a straight truck for two day for your test. You will want it for two day so that you have time to study for the pre-trip with your spouse on the actual truck you will be taking the test in. Check with the DMV a 24 ft U-haul should work for the test.
    If you can drive the 24 ft U-haul you can drive the straight truck it is basically the same thing.

    As for hiring on as a driver, PantherII, Express 1 and TryOurs is 3 companies I know that hire drivers without driving experience. Tri-State requires a minimum of 3 months driving experience. I don't know the requirements for FedEx. You can check with Expedited Services ( not to be confused with Expedite Solutions) they have a web site to see if they have a truck available, they are a great company. You can also check with pantherII or Express 1 to see what owners are looking for drivers when you are ready to start driving. Right now it is very slow in the Expediting. My husband and I are averaging about 800.00 to 1000.00 a week together right now. We are hoping for it to pick up soon.

    Class B OTR teams.... Simply put there's no market.

    Your best bet is a class A trying to go the cheapest route by getting a class B wont help you at all.

    I agree you should get your class B. Right now my husband and I are averaging around 1,000 a piece per week. OTR is a better market to get into.

    Holy crap I meant class A not B.... We are currently on a 6,098 mile run and I am a little tired sorry.

    Maybe my husband and I should go back for the A? We are making a 1000. together on the straight truck.

    What are you class A drivers making right now each?

    Maybe my husband could get a class A and drive solo, I'm starting to think I might like to go back to being a stay home wife! lol Just spend the money and let him make it.

    To clarify your making 1000$ a week combined?

    1000$ a week each/solo is not unrealistic for OTR class A.

    we made $1,000 per week combined when we were training. Right now we are running a load that is 6,100 miles multiply that by .41 and thats what we are making this week.

    The first couple of months are a little slow but we will be averaging 5,000 miles or more per week which has already started.
