Regional or OTR...

Hi is there a big difference in OTR and Regional pay? Am I right that regional keeps you closer to company terminals and OTR has you going all over? If not can someone explain it to me.

OTR is the long haul work, going from one end of the country to another, and the typical OTR driver spends 2 or more weeks at a time out in his truck. Then he returns home for a visit of a day or two, then heads back out to repeat the process.

Regional work may be home daily, or it may be home several times a week. I run regionally, primarily Mich, In, Oh, and Il, with trips to other places as they come up. I make a lot of repeat runs to the same customers, sometimes I may repeat my loads for a week doing a pair a day to the same destinations. If you are paid on a per mile basis, egional is a little bit tougher to make money on, works out well on other pay methods. Long haul OTR almost always pays on mileage.

Your choice depends on you and wht you want to do. if it's the romance of the open road (yeah right!!), then you may want to go for the big miles and OTR job. If being home on a reasonable schedule is more important, then regional works out well. Everyone has to find something that fits their needs and schedule.
