A stupid question, I know...

Hey, everyone...

This is a real basic question but it's just something I never was told and never bothered to ask. lol

When a company pays by the mile, (most or I guess even all of them do), do you get paid even when you're empty?

Like say you drop a load, and then you have to drive 130 miles to pick up a load somewhere else, do you get paid for those 130 miles? Or do you drive them for nothing?

I never thought of this until now. I am starting training on the 3rd of March and looking forward to getting into the industry... pardon me for being totally uninformed with this one issue.

Does it depend on the company maybe? Or is it universal?

Billy

The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked. The answer to your question is it all depends on the company. It's also one of the better points you need to look at when researching a company. And be sure to ask that company how many drivers retire.

we get paid loaded miles .43 cpm, and empty miles .30 cpm at miller but with the price of fuel the company tries to keep empty to a minimum.
