Are Truck Stop Showers Safe for Women??

Hi, my boyfriend and I have been looking into trucking as a team and he brought up the fact that he thought taking showers at truck stops or rest areas that had facilities would be a great idea to save money. I immediately thought this was not the best thought, especially since I am a very small woman and I worry about getting harassed - or worse - at these stops. He's not given much credence to my worry about this to this point, but seriously, how safe are shower areas at truck stops for women? I'd rather use common sense and avoid potentially bad situations if it's not that safe and just stick to hotels.

Thanks for any input offered! I appreciate it!

For the most part truckstop showers are very safe, Pilot truckstop have the best showers. I have never seen shower facilities at a rest area though

Pilots have the best showers? If you actually can find a place to park and don't mind waiting for an hour for them to clean them.

LMAO!!! Ahh thats funny, Pilot showers are dirty and small. T.A's especially the one in AMarillo TX have the best showers by far! An yes showers are safe in truckstops, there are lots of employees there and noone really bothers anyone at truckstops(except a homeless begging for a ride every now an then.

I think they are safe because for one, they are inside the building, lots of people around.
Two, you usually have a code or a key or something for the specific shower room you will be using and other keys and codes won't open your door.
Plus I think you also have a deadbolt on the inside.

I don't know any rest areas that have shower facilities.

As long as you shower at the big chain truckstops you can get those rewards cards. Usually you will get a free shower for every fillup of the truck. Pilot, Loves, TA, Flying J, and Petro all have these cards. I say get them all, they will give you points when you fuel or buy stuff in the stores.

I don't know how close you and your boyfriend are; but I would suggest you guys just shower together. You will save time that way. When the truckstops are busy you might get a shower now, but the boyfriend might not get one for another half hour. That will put you both behind. Getting one shower stall and both going in will also save your free showers from your points cards for later.

As far as safety goes, you will be fine. Lots of activity at the big stops. and as ziggy said, all showers have key codes to get in, plus they have deadbolts once you are inside.

Another word of advice: WEAR FLIP FLOPS!!! or your feet might leave with more than you came in with.

yes they are safe. as far as how has the cleanest well that just depends on the place and the time of day. i know most team drives if they are married just use the same shower room. i have never had a problem about not felling safe in a truck stop shower. but like the others have said i have never seen a shower at a rest area and if there was one i would not use it. i try and not even stop at rest areas the bathrooms are never clean and there to many creepy crawly things around them

I think you are suffering from an overdose of Smoky and the Bandit and Moving On. You are talking about running team and getting a hotel. Does either one of you have any experience in this industry? If you are going to be running team you'll be lucky to see a hotel once a month which makes for long spells twixt showers if you are planning on showering only in hotels. Teams basically run 24 hours a day. You don't shut down at 4, have a martini by the pool before your steak dinner, get up at 8 am and start over. Finding a hotel with truck parking is not always easy.
Do some more research on here and try to get a better idea of what you are getting into.
While not rest areas the service plazas in Ohio have showers. Bring your own towels.
