I start training at Driver Solutions on Mon. but i have no clue whom to work for. The guy i spoke to says Averitt? Is it a good place to work? Do they get good miles? Any way im new and have no clue. Is anyboby else starting Mon. too?

I went though school back in Oct-Nov. After reading the posts on this site I had to step back and rethink things. I want to drive but the companys out there really put the screws to the drivers! You have to be very careful on who u go with. Check everything out on what you are told! Read this site very carefully and listen to what is said. Don't hire on to a company and not plan on staying with them for at least 6mon to a year! One of the biggest thing to keep in mind is the money u will need just to go on the road! Starting pay is not good at all! (training pay) Training pay starts out at $300-$350. You will need a least $100wk to eat on the road, not much left over if u have to send money home. I can only really repeat what the others have said here. Do your research on the companies you are interested in. Remember, your going to hear good and bad about every company but your research will help you clear things up as well.

Take time to find out what companies are hiring in your area, research them here and also head out to truckstops and talk to drivers who work for those companies. Just remember to be polite and respectful of their time, most will readily talk your ear off.

The company you try to go to work for is just as big of a decision as to what school to attend.

One last point, remember that any company that hires no-experience drivers is going to generally pay on the low end and a majority of complaints about those types of companies is from new drivers who really didn't know what they were getting into.

Trucking is not the glamorous job it is made out to be on TV and in movies, it is a tough and lonely job generally that pays well for those that put in the work to make that way.
