What about Schnieder?

Ok, so I'm getting nothing on my post about what to do for cash to get to the C-1 school in Ft. Worth.

How about Schnieder? I would like to know from those of you who didn't have any cash on how and what it took to get into their school. From their requirment's page, I can pass all of it. What I can't find is do I have to have anything special before I get to go such as a permit or what? I heard someone say you had to but I can't find anything on it. Any one-on-one information would be great! Beside's I like the idea that they have 10 speed's and not auto's regardless of how slow they are.

Permit

From what I've researched you do need to have a CDL permit and a DOT physical. If you don't have the physical and you are accepted to the school, it sounds like they can set one up for you with one of their doctors in your area. I want to go with them too for CDL training, but I have to wait to apply because I have a contracted job in April.

I don't want to apply and have them accept my application and say come on down. I'll have to say I can't until May and then they won't want me. Do you or anybody reading this know how long it takes for a company to accept your application? And what would a company want from an applicant to want to get them in their CDL classes? I pass every requirement they want you to with drving, criminal and work history, but doesn't seem like they hire just anybody to go through their training. If anyone has any info, please let me know!

Laterz!

See, I'm with ya on that one Larz. Out of all that money you are paying you would think that would take care of everything. The permit takes money plus having to pay for other have to have's like shampoo soap extra meal, drinks through class etc. That's why until I can get the cash up for it I'm not applying because I'm in the same boat. I'm concerned about this whole blood pressure thing to.

I read one post on someone who failed because their blood pressure went up after a 30 minute continuious pre-work screen. How in the hell do they get their driver's? Everyone's blood pressure is going to hike up when they are physically moving around. Have they ever heard of the saying "get that blood pumping?"

But this put's me right back in the same boat like I am with Driver Solutions (C-1) and PAM. You have to be able to take care of yourself and feed yourself while your at home waiting on a trainer plus have your CDL swapped over from where ever you went to school to your home state then feed yourself until you first paycheck while your out with the trainer.

when i applied they set up my physical for me at a local doctors office, they made the appointment and all i had to do was show up, the doctors directly billed schneider for the physical and drug test

i had to go to the DMV on my own the get my permit (i think I paid $10)

Now I'm REALLY starting to like the sound of Schnieder. An easier and cheaper route to go for someone with an extremely limited income to (chump change) to be able to take care of himself during training. I'm fixing to dig out my Louisiana CDL manuel and look through it for the permit cost and start crunching some number's. Every time I crunch these number's I round everything up to the next dollar and if it's something like the permit I round it up to the next $5 mark to be on the safe side just incase thing's went up in price sense I got the book. Plus this help's keeping a safety net so you didn't misfigure for something and you end up running yourself short. I guess if it take's bread and tap water for something to eat over the next few week's to get the cash together to accomplish a goal and a dream then so be it. I am more than determined come hell or high water to get into school and I have a completely open mind for making it through.

I only have a couple of problem's but that with all companies. Making sure I get home time when the time is due, making sure they take out tax's and plenty of miles.

I wonder after you get on with a company if they will allow you to move? I've been thinking seriously about moving to SC from LA. but not sure if the company would let me stay with them. Thing is I can't move there with out a good job because of the situation plus the cost of moving is expensive but wouldn't take me long and only one trip to move my thing's. Only thing I would have to do is come back and get my truck.

Moving

One thing at a time Skunk Get a good job first then worry about relocating. If you're like me (and it sounds like you are) don't put the dream of the big road on hold for something like a move. You won't be home too much anyways being and OTR trucker. I just bought a house and won't see it too often, but this is a dream I've had since I was a kid. Home is where you lay your head is, whether it be here or in Texas, it makes no difference to me. The adventure and challenge is what I'm seeking. You only go down this road of life only once so make it interesting. At least that's how I feel.
I don't know if you've heard of the Pelle grant, but it's available up here in the Northeast. I was accepted to NETTTS driving school and was able to get $1400 from the Pelle (pronounce Pel) grant. Driving and hour and a half each way for 20 weeks while working fulltime just wouldn't work for me. Plus the school was $7200! Don't want to start off with that much dough in debt. I'm interested in finding out if there's a way to get that grant and apply it towards company training like Schneider's. When I find out about it, I'll let you know. That would take care of like half the training costs right there!!

That's cool Larz! We are in the same frame of mind. In my case I'm not really moving just to do it but as I found a lovely young lady that is supporting me in my decision to drive a truck and she's all for it. Everything between her and I is mutual. She's trying to barrow the money to help me get through school but I couldn't allow it and I'm sure many of you would understand why. Anyway I think I am going to go ahead with SNI sense everything sound's better and I won't have to raise "as" much money to attend. When I get the money up and they take me then I'll get sent to the Dallas school as well.

I thought about selling my prized possesion's but I can't bring myself to do it as the few thing's I own are all that I have to show for in the hard laborful work that I've done sense my mid teen year's. Not to mention you can't even buy these item's anymore because they are no longer made. A set of MTX 15" studio/house specker's in custom black wood grain box's that cost $300 a piece and a Washburn 12 string mahogony accoustic guitar priced new at $800 that I got for $100. I can't let these thing's go. I know I have to make a lot of scarifices in life but letting these thing's go I won't but I won't give up my dream either, especially if I have people supporting me finally instead of people putting me down because it's hopeless or to dangerous. I know it's dangerous and I know everything that's involved in it and I'm willing to put myself in that posistion. Fulfilling a dream, serving the coutry, supporting a family. I practically have my own family now but my other family like my mom and dad and such don't want me doing it but I don't give a damn what they like because I'm going to do what I want as long as I make doing something with myself instead of trying to be some thug or drug dealer like most people my age.

I finally turned and told my mom and step dad the other day, if you can't repsect me for trying to better myself for my own well being then you can both go #### yourself's because your not going to stop me. The only people who can stop me is me or ALL trucking companies.
