To answer you in short, no... they do not issue your CDL, the DMV of CA does. However YOU chose to sign a contract with them. Do you have a copy of that? In it, you had a clause that stated that if you did not complete the minimum amount of time with the company (whatever length was stated in your contract, one year, 18 months, etc) that you agree to pay back the company for the entire cost of schooling + whatever additional interest and/or fees specified.

I am not a fan of CRE, I have not worked for them or intend to. But the fact is, you agreed to their terms. They provided you with a service (free CDL training in exchange for your services (1 year+ employment with them). YOU chose to break that contract. So they likely will come after you to get the costs of the training back from you, that you agreed to when signing that contract to begin with.

You seem to have a very different situation than many other CRE students that post on this board. You chose to go to a company with a very bad reputation and have them pay for schooling, thus making you obligated to stay a minimum amount of time. However most other stories of this scenario, end up with, "What do I do? I went to CRE against the advisement of many on this board... what was on here was true... I got crappy training at their school, a horrible OTR trainer that taught me little and used me only to run as a team, and now I have gotten two preventable accidents in the first 10 weeks of my being solo. So they fired me, screwed me on my DAC report and now no one else hire me!"

You, on the other hand seem to have been able to turn that death spiral of a career, into something workable and by your own quote above, have gotten hired by a MUCH better company. So why not just suck it up, and pay them for the services they rendered... is it worth having them ruin your credit, when by the terms of their contract, they're right?

Well, I have no love or hate for you or CR England...BUT...You owe them the money pal. You signed a contract and they provided a service (you stated you received the training and your CDL), thus they are entitled to be paid. Man up, do the right thing and pay them. With all due respect - you can't go through life, nor this industry, with a credit rating gone to hell and you somehow rationalizing that you don't owe them a dime.

Be a man about this

I have to agree with the others. You try to sound like a victim but in essence you are a survivor. You will lose creditability with your peers. What you need to do is contact them and make arrangements to pay them off. If you don't this will happen:
  1. CRE will contract a collector for the monies that you owe.
  2. The collector will report to the three credit agencies.
  3. They will charge you with more intrest on top of the intrest that is accuring on the monies that you owe now.
  4. A lawsuite will be placed against you.
  5. A judgement will be placed against you.
  6. The judgement will contact your present employeer for wage garnishment.
  7. You will end up paying 3 times more monies than you would have by paying it off in the first place

I see in your future, that if this does happen, You will complain that CRE screwed you. You are not a victim but you will be (by your on accord) if you are not going to be a man.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not trying to insult you. I just want you to be proud of your own accomplishments
