Rrx Wannabe Wanna Chance

I've been a wanna be trucker bascially all my life. My dad was a trucker and most of the men in my family are either truckers or work on trucks. So I was around buses and trucks all my childhood. Ofcourse as I got into the teen years the passion for it wasn't there and I got into a little trouble. Im 28 now. By 2003, when I decided to make a change in my life for the better, I had walked away from that crazy life with 1 Felony (For Domestic Assult) and 1 DWI. I havent been in any trouble since. My Felony will be 6 years old this year and my DWI will be 5 years old this year as well. Basically now for the past 5 years I've been discovering my roots again and having a great passion to get into trucking ( The past 2 years really hard-core wanting to get into). I have applied for company after company after company and they all say the same or simular things. Felony has to be 10 years or in some cases 7 years old. No exceptions. And yet I know people who know people who have actually been to prison, have multiple felonies, and yet they are driving! I just don't get it. I don't want to be a telemarketer the rest of my life. So My last hope now is to go the the local technical college here and pay for the training myself and hope some local company here gives me a shot atleast to get some driver experience under my belt. I'd appreciate any feedback you guys on here can give me weather its bad or good. Thanx!!

USA Your best shot...

Wannabe, your best shot at getting into trucking is to take a local position for a year with a construction company or something similar. I'm willing to bet that's what the other guys did.
A large trucking company will look for some decent experience and with that, may overlook the past mistakes. Also, keep in mind the rules the trucking companies are playing by are generally set by their insurance companies and, they have to follow them.
If you really want to be a Driver, then do what it takes, pay your 'dues' for a year and before you know it, the companies will give you a chance.
Hang in there.

I'd call and ask about felonies before applying, that way it won't be on file that you have a felony; depending on whether or not you could get it expunged.

Recruiters will have a list of things that'll disqualify you.
