DAC and employment verifications...seriously!?

Ok so after searching the forum I am still unclear on this. I have never held a trucking job and Im in the process of filling out applications before school. Now some of these apps tell me to list TEN YEARS of employment history with dates, addresses, and phone numbers! WTF?

Do they really use this DAC to verify every non-driving job i've ever had? Would I be making a mistake by leaving a few peon jobs off the app?

I have a squeaky clean everything else but the job history jumped around a bit after the Marines.

Thanks

It's a Fed. (DOT) requirement regarding 10 year job history for driving jobs. You have to have all the info for any jobs during last 3 years, but for before that, minimum of Company name will suffice. Just indicate they were non driving jobs. There can be no gaps. It's a pain in the kista, but companies are required to ask.

They will most likely confirm your more recent employment, but will only check beyond that if there were driving jobs.

It gets even worse with age.

I can't even tell you what state I was living in 10 years ago, without spending an hour reconstructing my life in my head.

3 years is required by the FMCSR for all previous jobs, go back 10 years if the earlier jobs included driving a CMV.

Not that I'd argue the point with any prospective employer...

And if you were not in the trucking industry, there won't be a DAC report available, so that's not something to worry about.

the FMCSR doesn't care about gaps in employment - that's an employer thing.

To see the requirements in writing, check the FMCSR. If you don't have a copy, look at: [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.

Some employers will argue that point, until the cows come home...then leave again.

exactly - and as a prospective employee, I'm not about to wave the FMCSR at them over such a minor issue (for me - but I've held only one job in the past 15 years... )

And, of course, the FMCSR does say that employers can ask for more information than is required. Annoying paragraph, that.

Nope, I just refused to provide it. I was self employed for a short while. Had NO supporting documents due to a robbery of my house. And it was going to take 6-12 weeks to get copies from the IRS.

Now...think about this very carefully. Why in the hell would someone steal your tax records? The answer in this case, was they stole the container/cabinet they were in.

But try to prove that to Police, Insurance, Lawyer, and the IRS.
