Where to begin...got the CDL in 2001 in Chipley, FL. The family didn't want dad OTR (nice to tell after 8 weeks of training) so I take a local truss delivery job.
Shortly after getting hired they find I can actually use a computer & recruit me to DESIGN trusses (though I can't swing a hammer to save my life)
Now...housing industry is dead and NOW wife suggested OTR.
So...no driving since 2006 (sporadic at best when needed)
Do I need what CRST called a "refresher" course (hey, it's like riding a bike, right?)
I don't want to be a company volunteer but this board seems to practically suggest to that, at least in the beginning. Were not ready for business expenses like a start-up, just get me a job.
CRST is telling me 2 weeks at no $$$ for this refresher then 3wks then 2 wks training..
Q. Does this seem legit with most companies?
Not ready to volunteer in this army

Yes, you will need a refresher course, which is something that makes you insurable. Also, the two weeks out with a trainer is a pretty short time. Not a bad venture. But you didn't say what the three weeks consisted of, is that driving with a trainer or part of the refresher course?

2 wks refresh, 3 wks REG trainer, 2 wks ADV training....not sure what thats all about.

If you have had your CDL's since 01 and no tickets or accidents. I would be trying to get a refresher course with a local college or CDL training school. Thats if you can afford to go this route. If you can go that route, see if the school can get a confirmed driving job at a company based on your history. Otherwise, your kinda stuck to a company's training program whomever you decide to go with.

Yeah I called Washington/Holmes. $360 for a refresher (cheaper than CRST's $500)
I am applying for a local gig, thought that would be better anywho. -
I got called by CT (Coastal Transport) awhile back, they are saying six weeks # $300/wk, home every weekend, Southeast Regional at .32/mile after training. I like Roehl, so I stayed here, but just thought I'd share.
