Looking for Straight Truck Ride in Fla. Ok gang, I know your thinking "Straight Truck" that's not trucking!! I want to get back out there and not going from my family for weeks at a time. I don't have Tractor-Trailer expierence and not a time of my life to get it, unless I can get the training without huge expense and can be home often. I drove for a cabinet carrier in the late 80's and was out 2 0r 3 days a week and home every weekend. I'm looking for a good company that can get me in a truck asap in the Tampa, Fla. area. I don't care where I go (Southeast Preferably) but it really doesn't matter. I guess to be out for a couple days at a time I'm limited to where I can go anyway. I really miss being out there and over the years I have had a good career building homes, the problem is I lost my job due to layoffs and now I feel maybe I can get back on the road if the opportunity arises. I have 3 young children and my wife is recovering from Cancer, she encourages me to follow what I want to do and try to get back on the road. However being a responsible husband and father I want to be able to be close to home and still drive out on the road. Sure I can go local and deliver furniture or something like that, but it's not "The Open Road". Any help would be appreciated and you folks keep this great country of ours moving...Be Safe and Thanks!

If you need a few extra bucks and can spare the time, try one of the rental agencies for trucks. They seem to get a backlog of trucks in your area and transfers are common.I did it a long time ago in your area.Mobile to St.Pete,Atlanta to St.Pete and St.Pete south among a few.Paid good.I did this many years ago , so things might have changed by now.Check into it.One last thing. It was good extra income at the time but it could have been my last.I was supposed to take that bus to Fort Meyers the morning the ship took out the sunshine skyway.Ryder called us instead around midnight to fly out of Tampa to Atlanta to pickup other trucks so we never got on the bus.Everyone died on the bus that went off the bridge enroute to Fort Meyers. So transfering trucks may be a good option and being in the wrong time and wrong postition can hurt also.

Wow....your very lucky. That was a horrible day. I appreciate the idea, however it looks like I will be going a different route for now. Got a great position with a Company in Va. and the family and I are relocating. Be safe out there and by the way, they rebuilt that bridge and it's a site...Great Tarpon Fishing there! I drove it every day for 4 yrs and never a time I didn't think of the people that lost their life that day...Glad you weren't one of them.
