| Looking for advice I have been driving straight truck, and decided I needed to go on the road, get some tractor trailer experience, because in my area that is where the money is, but everyone wants someone with 1-2 years OTR. So anyway, was getting set up to go to one of the "mill schools" to start my career in the semi-world. Now, I am getting some interest in a moving company, which they are calling "OTR". It is multi-state tractor trailer driving, they are an affiliate with one of the big moving companies. Suprising to me, since it is a local company, they seem to be offering good $ and bennies. My question is, does anyone know if down the road this type of work is going to suffice as "experience" in OTR. I imagine this is quite seasonal, though they are claiming the position to be year round. The training wage is $600 a week, with them saying the OTR drivers make quite a bit more. I know of some people that have driven tractor-trailer hauling produce in the summer to be told that this wasn't considered OTR experience that counts, and still ended up doing Swift, Werner, etc, and I worried if I take this that either I'll be stuck or I'll still end up still having to do one of the training companies. Any input will be appreciated. |
