So negative read the entire thread

Demand for drivers is down, so it isn’t going to be as easy as you think to get sponsored.

I’d call Driver Solutions in Indianapolis, IN. They will get either PAM or USA to sponsor you if you qualify, but you need to get yourself there and have money for food and licensing fees. I think they tell you to bring around $200 for that. They do have a hotel to put you up in.

Indianapolis is like 3 hours from Columbus, 2 hours from Cincinnati, and 5 hours from Cleveland. If that is too far I’d suggest something other than truck driving.

You will get $200 while in school to help you out….but it $200 TOTAL, not $200 per week.
If you had read the entire thread and not just this one part you would have read that Prime, WIL and Schnieder take care of their students needs while in training, this was the reason for me asking in the first place.

Also after looking into Driver Solutions I posted from their web site see this reply in this thread [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link.
that they require alot more.

I have made my decision and am going to PRIME on the 27th of July, I thank you all for your comments and opinions.

"It is going to happen"
Hahaha! No ruffled feathers! Just a difference of perspective, and not worth arguing about. We can't afford to sit back and LET it happen without letting congress know they will be beaten severely about the head and shoulders come election time, though!

Why do we keep voting these same idiots into office over and over again?

I agree about the negativism. Mom used to say "Can't never could, and won't never will!" Suggesting that we kids should take the positive attitude that we can and will do things we need to do. There is always a way! I can a helluva lot easier afford $200 for living expenses in school (and pay my own transportation if I HAVE to) than upwards of $6,500 because I assumed that's the way it is everywhere! Do your research!

There ARE companies out there that will pay every penny of your expenses up front, including transportation to school (I did find ONE) but you will owe every penny and then some in interest over an extended period, and this was a smaller company with a shady history. I won't even mention their name! It stands to reason that the more desparate they are to hire you, the more they'll entice you to get you in the door (and the less happy you will be afterwards).

As far as demand for drivers being down, I just don't see it in the long term. This is (if true) a seasonal slump, at worst. The industry is simply not expanding fast enough to handle the increased freight demands of an ever growing population (and another reason the Fed isn't going to upset the training requirements applecart just yet). I wouldn't worry about not finding a job in trucking until they perfect Star Trek's transporter technology! LOL!

Demand for drivers: I just this afternoon got pre-hired by PTSI to attend C1 Truck Driver Training school in Indianapolis (Driver Solutions), despite a blood pressure problem (150/70) and new medication. See the thread "Least Out Of Pocket Expense...".

Are you going to go with them?

Thanks! I have until July 3rd-4th to back out, but at this writing it looks like I will go with PTSI/P.A.M., as so far it's the best fit for my situation. They are already doing MVR and background checks, etc., according to what I got out of the conversations with the recruiters. I really wanted to go to Schneider Training Academy in Charlotte, but my blood pressure won't allow a 2-year medical card at this point, and I don't think Schneider would hire me with that hanging over my head. They didn't respond to my application, either. At my age, I'm also a little spooked about Schneider's WorkWell assessment (no problem for "kids").

Once the wife and I both have our CDL's and get my BP down where it should be, we will consider driving for Schneider as a company team.

Nice to hear of a wannabe with an actual plan and realistic expectations...... I'm sure you'll keep posting and I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes for you..........
Good Luck!

I will, B & J.

I linked to the wrong thread above. If you have BP concerns, you should read [LINK POSTED BY MEMBER] Only Members Can View This Truck Forum Link. , if you haven't already. It's in the "Drivers Health Corner" section of this forum.
