Rrx Well....Beggars Can't Be Choosers

Yup I did a search on Roadmaster and ofcourse I didn't get all the great opinions I thought I was gonna get. But I will say this. I am a Felon. 6 year old Felon with a 5 year old DUI. License has only been valid a couple months. So yea you can say I have a long road ahead of me. But u know what..... I aint scared. I don't do any drugs and I barely drink anymore so I'm not worried about the D.O.T. physical. And yea the school I've chosen is $6500 bucks all outta pocket and I have no gaurantee of employment. But I gaurantee yall this...I am walkin outta there with my chin held high with CDL in hand. I got family all over the USA and I'd say a quarter of them are truckers. So..."I got People". Ill c yall on the road...PEACE.

Well ive been doing my home work. ive found dosens of companies that will hire you as long as the felony is 5 years old as well as the DUI being 5 years old. Its just that they require atleast 3 months to a year of OTR experience.

Honestly, this is where I think those companies we all keep referring to as "bottom feeders" come in............

I know it sounds harsh...... but you are one of those guys that is going to have to "pay his dues"........ but you are also young and doing a few years with some of the more challenging companies won't kill ya.......... if you can survive them and keep your sanity, your sense of humor and actually make a few bucks........ you will be set to move up the ladder....

I like the fact that you have a positive attitude and I hope it continues...... please be prepared for training not to be what you expect it to be........ if you learn anything by reading around here, you will learn that almost no one (except SNI students) is thrilled with their training...... it is what it is........

If you are paying for your own training then I would think you would be able to get on with Werner or CR England or Swift........ then after a year, just make up a good story and leave........ do it on good terms so you will get a good reference...... then see what better options you have at that time.......... a year is not really a very long time...... especially when you are working as many hours as OTR drivers do!

Good luck and keep posting......

THANX STORYTELLER! Really appreciate the positive feedback. I do know that it will be hard my first 2 or 3 years just cause of my backround. Im ready for that though. I also figured that training isnt going to be anything special either. Just as long as I get the fundamentals of Saftey and Driving Down leave with my CDL. Id thank you on your thank you thing but I dont know where the button is to do that.LOL Thanx alot man.

You don't need to do the thanks button...... no big deal........ (I'm just happy when people aren't yelling at me! )...... but if you are looking for it just look right under where you read our posts...... there are a few things you can click on........

Quote: you click on that so that you can get a copy of what we wrote in your message...... see the darker box above with your remarks in it?..... I got that by clicking the quote button....

'' ''+: you use that one to quote several different people in the same post.... that is for those of us who have way too much time on our hands.... LOL.....

page: I never use that it is some kind of quick quote button....

Thanks: that is the button you click to tell someone thank you. I think it is new but I am new so I'm really not sure..........

PS/Warning: Never tell a teacher you don't understand something unless you want to learn how to do it!!!!

DUI being 5 years old not really going to hurt you, the felony neither because of the age... Sure they will bring it up and several will turn you down cause of it but the 2 being that old would not keep you out.. (really also depends on the severity of the felony)

Now this

Quote:
License has only been valid a couple months.
This is going to be the killer... You will find very few companies that will hire somebody who's licenses has only been valid for a few months.. most will not take you if you licensed had been suspended within 3 years "as a new driver entering the trucking industry"...

I seriously believe you would be throwing you money away.. Hope the government is not paying for it.. You best bet would be to look into farmers who are hiring, they have a different type of group insurance.. Other then that as a new drive with no experience and only has a valid licenses for a few months, doubt any trucking company insurance would cover you...

Good luck! your going to need it...

well basically its like this. i have a few family memebers that work for mom and pop operations. they pretty much gaurantee me a job when i get my cdl. other than that mostly everyone else in my family who is a trucker works for the big ones like roadway mayflower, even have a couple workin for swift. yea i knew that the licence only being valid of few months thing would be the big one. thats why im not aiming high as of yet. im gonna get my cdl then look into one of these companies that do the on the job training thing. worst comes to worst ill be driving for a very small company making minimal money. but atleast it will be experience.

One thing you have going for you is that you are able to accept your past and how it effects your present and shapes your future. That is one of the biggest hurdles any of us have to face. You got that part down so the rest is gravy! Well, maybe not gravy but with a bunch of hard work you can be successful. Having family in the biz certainly helps. It ain't gonna be easy but what worthwhile ever is? Best of luck to you.

That is what I saw in this guy also........ most of the other posters with issues want to blame everyone and everything else...... and expect to still start at the top....... we ALL make mistakes...... I really believe it is how we make up for them and get on with our lives is what determines how those mistakes will (or won't) affect our future.............

Anyone out there wanna claim to be perfect???
