So which is it? You claim it's being a "man" to avoid creating a bad situation, yet you state your own refusal to do such...

it wasn't taught explicitly in school - but when passing (head on or same direction) another truck, I ALWAYS move over to the far side of my lane. I did have one person ask about it, and when I said I was giving the other driver room, he (as others) pointed out that if the other driver was doing his job, I'd not NEED to move over.

I pointed out that I have no way of knowing if that other driver IS doing his job, and I'd just as soon go home at the end of the day despite him.

As for 10 and 2 on the steering wheel - I'd thought it was more widely known than it seems to be - 9 and 3 is preferred these days (take a look, for instance, at where race car drivers hold the wheel)

This past week, I've been seeing a LOT of drivers with both hands at 11 and 1, together at noon, or even steering with their elbows. WTF????

Steering with your elbow is perfectly legal,,, Your knee works too if both your hands are busy,,, i even use my butt to steer when im getting in the fridge!!!!

My trainer was getting mad at me because I was driving with my feet. How was I supposed to turn the pages on that book I was reading??

I really dont understand why a trainer or anybody would get upset for moving over to the far right side of your lane. That is a VERY VERY good reaction to his comment about 'if that driver is doing their job'. Kinda like asking a cop to just walk up to a car with their eyes closed, and just hoping there isnt a criminal in the car with a gun.

As far as racecar drivers goes, some drive 9-3, some drive 10-2.....if you are Danica Patrick or Jeff Gordon, your hands are all over the steering wheel like you're swatting flies.

No racecar driver's hands stay in any position for long.......... they aren't exactly driving on a straight patch of lined asphalt that stretches out as far as the eye can see............. I am lost on this point...........

Funny, my first day on the road, I did the same thing and my instructor said...the exact same thing. I didnt comment since my answer would have been wrong anyway.

He wasn't upset with me - just asking, and then making me defend my position. Sorry it didn't come out that way to y'all.

You got me on the race car drivers - I was being a parrot. Instructor at an *Offensive* driving course used that analogy and I didn't think to check it. Come to think of it, when I was racing, back in the day, MY hand tended to be wherever they needed to be at the moment.
