I've noted it happening with increased frequency as of late. I don't like it, and I generally let them know if they have their CB on.

| yeah Dance, so do i, this past thurs. i was down in MD, and this driver came along side me, and his tractor was just past the nose of mine, still had his 53' trailer along side me, and he just mozeyed his way right over into my lane, i had to run the breakdown lane, which was coming to an end due to const. ahead. i hit the air horn and got on the radio and started yelling, turns out he dropped his apple on the floor and he was picking it up. ..... good to no that he is eating healthy to stay alive, all along taking out other drivers...... i always keep alert tho... 'cause you never no..

| I blame the CDL schools. All they want to do is have the students get their CDL and they're done. What's missing in today's world of truck driving is the old defensive driving technics that drivers used long ago. I believe that all electronic devices except the cb radio and maybe a gps should be kept in the sleeper. And when you're on surface streets the radios should be turn off unless you absolutely need it. I did that so I could hear any emergency vehicles. There's no courtesy anymore and it seems that all drivers are out for themselves. We still teach our drivers to protect yourself and have a cushion around the truck. If someone gets into that cushion then it's up to the driver to make it safe again. The only person you can change on the road is yourself. If drivers get all pizzed off at other drivers all they'll do is eat holes in their stomachs or have other health problems. I'll take a relaxed courteous driver anytime. |

There are so damn many idiiots running around out there anymore it IS frightening. So many folks have "anal/cranium inversion" or more plainly put, head up ###. I do believe there may be one other factor in the swerving though. It is normal for an (untrained) driver to "drive where he is lookin' instead of lookin' where he is driving." So if you are passing, or being passed and the other driver looks your direction, it is not uncommon for their vehicle to move toward where they are looking.

| Your hands follow your eyes. The driver is looking in his driver side mirror and subconciously adjusts the steering wheel in that direction. |

| some of that swerving is not paying attention and the aerodymics involved. the two worst spots for the swerve in manuver are as your tractor passes his tractor/trailer air gap and then a larger one as you push past him into clean air. you have these spots and so does the other guy so it can act like four even though it is two spots times two drivers reacting. Alot of people don't notice but often you aren't steering (straight) down the road. you are actually steering slightly left or right to compensate for cross winds. when the need to compensate goes away or comes on strong and you don't react it can change your direction enough to cause a problem. when two guys are driving they don't really notice it much, just a minor correction and you are past or passed. toss in a knucklehead with a cell-phone who is talking instead of driving its a little worse... and two guys not driving??? well you can lose a mirror in a hurry. mind you, it doesn't have to be a cell phone, any distraction will do: daydreaming, tired, dropped apple??? lol, or whatever... will make it more noticable. phd in knowitallogy...

| I usually move over a bit when getting passed, just to be safe(r). As was stated, I can only control my actions. I also stay tight to the yellow when i'm passing someone, all the way till i'm clear and ready to cut over. I do this more as a courtesy to the other driver. Especially a 4 wheeler!( don't need them any more panicked than they are!) Since I started driving I have become an absolute proponant of hands free cell phone laws. H*ll, i'd make it a felony AND impound the car on the spot. Yeah I know, a bit exteme, but you get my point. Of course hands free devices dont make you pay any more attention! |

| Pathfinder i totaly agree with what you said, hands free phones make no difference. your still talking, and getting caught up in the convo. i always use my bluetooth, and i always stay more focused on my driving, if the phone call is important, ill tell them to ill call back as soon as i can get parked someplace. and i also agree with staying next to the yellow line, its smart to do such tthings. all i no is that i always keep an eye on other drivers, cause usually they are the ones you need to worry about.
