Common response...

Let me be the first to respond to this question. If the doc signs a waiver stating, " This perscription, when taken as directed, is not likely to interfere with the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle" or something to that effect. To be sure, go in to the fmcsa site and path to perscription medicine. Bottom line is if the doctor says it okay, it's okay, not the company you work for or anybody else.

disclaimer: as far as I know...

You might have some problems. This is due to the fact that clorazepate is close to Valium and is used for alcohol withdrawal and epilelsy. The only way to be safe is get a letter from your doctor then talk with the company doctor. The company doctor has the final say no matter what another doctor might say.

Always fertile grounds for debate...

You got the stripes one me Mandiesel, to say the least. But It's just hard for me to imagine that company doctors would deny a driver a medication that their doctor has dutifully researched and carefully prescribed for them, with full knowledge of their medical background, and their duties as a driver. How exactly would this play out? Let's say that OTR-Joe's been with a company for a while and has a good safety record. He then gets his 2yr. physical and whatever malady's discovered, and the doctor writes a scrip for it. Then Joe submits a long form to his company and the company doc says, "Whoa, I got a problem with this." So then what happens? Does he just say to Joe, "Tell your doctor to prescribe something else"? Maybe the company doctor can suggest an alternative? I just think it's sad because it really has little to do with the driver, they're just caught in the middle.
Let me ask you, does this happen a lot?

Ooops...!

I meant to say Gashauler. And I was wrong. We may have the right to take legal perscriptions, but have no "right" to employment!

For what it's worth, from fmcsa 439.41

(b)(12)(ii) Exception. A driver may use such a substance or drug, if the substance or drug is prescribed by a licensed medical practitioner who:
