| You are already on the road by now, so it is too late for advice. I hope you remembered not to swerve, because the second trailer will whip. The lead trailer should be heavier than the second trailer. If the second trailer is several thousand pounds heavier than the lead, the rig may feel as though it is leaning or wandering from a straight path. |

We can give more advice if we know how much you have to do. If it's drop and hook then you're very lucky. You'll just have to get use to pulling doubles. If you do get out of shape and have time a little pull on the trailer brakes will straighten the set out. It's good you're starting now because on snow and ice it's a different world. Let us know how it's going. |

| Nothing to it really. Heavier trailer in the front, hold on to the steering wheel, don't make any sudden moves. And another thing. If you're driving for an LTL company, always scale your loads. The weights listed on the paperwork are sometimes wrong. Shippers lie very well about what their freight weighs. Saves 'em money, you know. If your dolly axle and rear trailer are both heavier than your front trailer axle, (that is individually, not combined) than chances are they're backwards.

| One thing you want to do is stay in route. What I mean by this is,don't take a detour into unfamiliar areas. We had a couple of new guys get lost on their way to a terminal.Behold!A low bridge.I know you can back up a few feet with a set but it wasn't any help to them. They ended up breaking down the set and rehooking to get turned around. They did have to sit down with the terminal manager and explain why it took so long to get from point A to point B. |

| A few drivers can back the second trailer to a dock if they have room for the proper set-up. It is possible to damage the nose of the second trailer with the tailgate of the first trailer. For example, the trailers collide while pulling forward to the right after backing far enough to get the converter dolly pointed to the left. Been there, done that. On the other hand, doubles will make a u-turn of a shorter radius than is possible with a longer, single trailer. You may find yourself caught in a union dispute at 3:00 a.m. on Pulaski Ave. Simply make a u-turn on the four lane street with your doubles, and go back to the terminal. Been there, done that also. |

| heavy trailer in front, yeah, that becomes more critical when the weather is crappy. if you have to hook your own sets, learn how to hook your dolly on the front box and back it under the rear box. it takes a while to figure it out, but it comes in REAL handy later. when your in reverse, turn the wheel the direction you want the dolly to go. good luck and be safe out there. |

| well, it didn't go that bad at all...aside from the stereo in the truck quitting on me...and some clown putting locks on the glad hands of the trailers I was picking up, Other than that, it was a real nice ride. I was figuring a LOT more wiggling from the trailers than I got. It was all nice and smooth, even with the two empties! tonight, I go do it myself. I have to figure out how to hook these up myself tonight...ugh...it was nice last night to have a helper.... Shawn |

| It easy after you've done it a few times. It also helps if your tractor has a pintle hook on it. I would just push the dolly by hand over to the last box and leave it right in front. Then get the front box and back it up to the dolly. Get out and hook the dolly up and then back under the last box. That way you won't miss the pin and damage the dolly or trailer. You have to have air in the dolly and know how to release the brakes but it's much easier and faster than hooking. |
