Seat Belt Tickets

Does anyone know if these are considered "moving violations" they have no point value in most states, and you can get them even when not driving?

Depends on the state you received the ticket in... what state?

Ohio your seatbelt ticket would be a moving violation...
(although Ohio is funny about the way they do things, if you pay your ticket fast, like within a few days then you have a chance of it never showing up.)

Indiana the last time I knew it was not a moving violation (I live in Indiana) They was talking about making it a moving violation but never did hear the conclusion..

Like others have said, the penalities vary by state. Here's some other news on how not wearing a seatbelt can affect you or your wallet. Some states, not all, have enacted a law that allows insurance carriers to reduce,by almost half, the amount you may recieve for injuries from a crash if it is determined that your injuries were made worse by not using a seatbelt.

Wow! That sets a terrible precedence.

why so? I think it's fine. In the long run, then, my rates should go down, because I'm not paying for some jerk who thinks a seatbelt is too much trouble.
In addition, most insurance companies already maintain some form of no-payment clause in the event you are found to not have been wearing a seatbelt in the first place

in fact, I'd much rather see this than 'seatbelt laws' in the first place, since I still maintain that wearing a seatbelt is the same as wearing a motorcycle helmet, and should be up to the individual.

I got two seatbelt violations about three years ago, they're on my dac report, but nobody much seems to care.

I think seatbelts and airbags are a bunch of crap; other people too worried about how I live my life instead of being worried about the large leather bound book crammed in (up) their backsides.

they never look at the downsides to these silly laws... like how many fewer organ donors are available.

LOL. Indeed, I've always said that there shouldn't be laws about how I kill myself. I think the human population would be better off if one was allowed to choose to be stupid undeterred. Far as I am concerned the only laws we need are the ones protecting other people from me, not me from myself.
