I imagine residence requirements vary from state to state. Some places, like Kalifornia seem to hold that 'once you've lived here, you'll always live here, even if you live in Florida now'

It seems like it would be a job in itself. And (2) I'm very curious about what it actually takes to satisfy a domicile requirement. I mean, you can rent a room at someone's house and the amount could be extremely low, and who's to say it's illegal?
A rented room in someone's house would be legal, I believe.
Or, a homeowner could be renting out all but one room in their house, and also be legal, I believe.

What the companies want is a brick and mortar building where mail is delivered. PO Boxes usually don't work because they don't indicate roots. The companies want to know where and how to contact you SOMEhow, and prefer that you have SOMEone in your life who will ALWAYS know, pretty much, where you are.

I believe not having an actual address, but instead a P.O. box, is an absolute non-starter. It would be flushed out on their 10-40 if they tried to claim per-diem for one. And I would think the company would be hard pressed to pay per diem to a P.O box as well it seems illegal. So I think we can agree that having an address is a prerequisite for employment. Now as far as getting the company's permission to take time-off at places other than your "home", that's what I was questioning to begin with. But it seems a separate (although related) point to domicile. If I read into your post right, you seem to think a driver would have a problem with this kind of "life-style", and I would agree Aftershock.

Well,........ actually there is a way around the address problem.
Instead of getting a Post Office Box at the Post Office, get one at one of those package shipping places that will also provide receiving of mail and packages, and store them until you pick it up.

Those addresses appear as a residence, ie,
Your Name
1234 Somewhere St.
Suite 44
Anywhere, USA zip.

A "problem"?
Define "problem"?
It wasn't a problem for me --- I loved it!
And my dispatchers worked with me when I wanted to take a day or so off while OTR.

On my frequent trips betwixt Kansas City, MO and Ontario, California, it wasn't uncommon for them to honor my request to stop in Terral, Oklahoma to watch the NASCAR races with a friend there, then got in a little wild pig huntin'.

Out of route?
YuP!
And a perk, too.

And ANOTHER reason why I like smaller truckin' companies.

On one occasion, I was goin' across the Bonneville Salt Flats while they were racin' on the salt.
I asked my dispatcher if I could run their triple-digit Big truck on the 10-mile course, you know, ---- just to see what she'll do.

He said "OKAY".
I was kiddin' ---
but he sounded serious.
