Hello, I am interested in becoming a driver. I was wondering what companies allow pets in the truck with me on the road. I want to take my 9 pound cat along with me. She isn't big, but I know some companies won't allow this.

What companies should I look into?

    Thanks

Last I heard Werner does. Roehl does not. I believe Prime does, but that may only be true for their L/O trucks.

Go to some of the trucking employment websites and they usually have checklists as to what different companies have to offer. such as pets, lease plans, hometime, rider programs etc...

Prime only allows lease operators pets on their trucks. Crete (new hires), Gordon, CR England do not allow pets. Swift, Interstate Distributor do.

I took my pet dog with me and am always on the lookout for companies allowing pets. One thing I notice is that about 50-75% of company recommendations are incorrect. Drivers see a pet in a truck belonging to Company A and then mention that Company A allows pets, which they do not.

Call any company you are told allows pets and verify their pet policy. It's best to have some brochure from the company that mentions they allow pets. They often advertise this since it is unsual. Several times I've had the exact same conversation about pets in the truck: I ask someone from the Safety Dept if they allows small pets to ride along and the company rep instantly says "we don't allow riders." (OK, I wasn;t asking about *riders* but they apparently see a pet and a hitchhiker as the same.)

Don't be tempted to sneak a pet into the truck. Companies will sometimes fire you immediately, as if you were allowing hitchhikers in thew truck. If the truck breaksdown or some drunk runs into your truck with a pet along you will be discovered. Layovers and breakdowns can be a real problem as only some motels or shops will allow a pet inside.

I just went threw their orientation with the impression that I could bring my dog once I went solo but I found out other wise. Swift did away with pets, only those who had them before where grandfathered in
