Help With the Physical Exam

A pinched nerve in my neck has made my left arm considerably weaker than my right arm. In fact, I've failed the lifting test at Swift and JB Hunt. Actually, JB Hunt doesn't require lifting above the shoulders anymore and I think my left hand could've held on long enough to have carried the 100 lb weight around the room...maybe. I didn't even get the chance because the therapist doing the testing stopped because of my left hand squeeze strength (or lack thereof, I should say).
Does anyone know of a company that does not do the lifting test other than Werner and PTL? I hear most companies now do lifting tests even for van drivers.

you'd better go have an MRI done on your neck, i thought the same thing. turns out it was a ruptured disk and 3 more that are bulging, getting geared up for neck surgery now.

there's a bunch of companies that don't have their own physical.. probably a majority of them, is my guess.

If you can pass the DOT physical, you should be good to go.

However, part of the DOT physical is arm strength (pressure up/down against the doctor's hands). I don't recall if I had to do a grip test.. and I'm too lazy to crawl into the back of the truck and pull out my FMCSR.

I do know that part of the test can prevent you from getting your medical card.

Forget trucking for a little while

2300

Forget trucking until you get this problem taken care of. You may need surgery. One thing you can count on--it won't get any better. It'll stay the same or get worse. Besides, knowing going in you have this problem may set you up for disaster later if and when you have to file a workmen's comp claim for it. No company will appreciate having to cover claims for a pre-existing condition.

Yeah I drive a Swift truck
And that means one thing
It means she's slow
It's a typical company truck
It's just all show and no go

I'm gettin' passed by Yella
And even Overnite
I'm gettin' passed by ever' body in sight
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

No, my hometown's nowhere in sight
And if you think I'm pissed off
You're right
46 days on the road
And I'm not gettin' home tonight

Love pissing off those trucking company insiders.

I have heard that...

Many companies have farmed out their physical testing to companies like workwell, etc. which are much more stringent than regular D.O.T physicals. Wish I could be of more help...
