HI, I got my first ticket in 5 years, for supposedly diregarding a stop sign while in my car. I am given the option to take a drivers safety course in a month to get it off my record.

My question is, even once it's on my record, when I apply to a new job, they ask about any tickets I have gotten, do I have to tell them about this? Or will I be in the clear. Thanks.

Needless to say, you don't have to do anything. Just deal with the consequences. You have choices. Accept it, school it away, or fight it. The sooner you make a decission, the better IMO. Running a stop sign might not be the biggest deal in itself. It's the cover-up that most often leads to trouble.

It's gonna be a big deal, if it goes on your DL's.

As one poster stated, get it taken care of now.

When you apply for a job, here is how it works.

They will ask, you will tell. They will run your DMV report. If it's not there, they won't say squat to their insurance company.

If you don't tell, and they find out. You're history.

Run a stop sign in a big truck. Kill someone, you'll be labeled a habitual offender in court. Because some lawyer will do the leg work to dig it up again. On your record or not. Don't make his job easy...get rid of it now.

This is a corrected link that works . Your only chance is to get an attorney to appear for you . Odds are good for reduction to a nonmoving violation .

Anytime you get a ticket it does not go on your record until the court has completly dispositioned it. In other words, if you have been given the option of the defensive driving course with a time limit, it usually doesn't hit your driving record until that time is up and you have failed to complete the course or send the certificate from the course to the court. However, whenever you are applying to a company and you're not 100% CERTAIN that you know what's on your driving record, get a copy of it before you turn the application in and make sure that if there is something on your record you report it on the app. If you got a ticket and it has been fully dispositioned by the court and it's not on your record, don't tell them about something that they will not see. I know that every safety manager in the industry will tell you different from this, but you have no obligation to disclose driving history that is not included on your MVR.

When you read the federal regulation regarding this matter to which another driver has offered a link, you need to remember that it is up to that particular state as to how they report tickets to the MVR of the CDL holder. Most states treat them like a ticket for the four wheelers because it's mostly all about the money and very little about the punishment. That's why you need to work hard to bargain with the court solicitor when you get a ticket. Most all of them have a lot of options that they will extend to keep tickets off a person's record. However, if it's related to a CDL offense they will charge you a great deal more than the fine to keep it off your record. Even if they do this, it's still worth it to keep your CDL record clean.

Don't assume because something isn't on your MVR today it won't be on there tomorrow . I worked for a company in Florida that hired a driver with a clean MVR . A couple of months later they signed a lease with Ryder . Ryder ran his MVR and his license came up as suspended . NY had just notified FL of unpaid charges on a 3 year old ticket . He had paid the ticket but wasn't aware of a reinstatement charge . (Which is why you should always have tickets handled by an attorney ) . The driver called N.Y. DMV and asked where he could send money Western Union or a cashier's check sent overnight . Sorry , there are procedures to follow . It took 3 weeks to get his CDL reinstated . I know he made every effort . I helped where I could . Luckily the company held his job for him even though they only had 4 drivers .
