| Idling, ect. are you expected to sleep with the windows down in the summer? I keep reading about some companies dont want you to idle. But what I want to know is, if the truck is going to basically be your home when you not home. Are you allowed to run the ac or heat when you sleep. What companies allow you to run your truck or have other means to run your ac or heat. I want to be a trucker, but I damn sure dont want to spend every time I sleep sweating to death, or even worse sitting with my windows down with thousands of dollars in the back, just asking someone to creep into my truck while Im asleep because my windows are open. I Might be wrong about this, but I would like to hear from drivers out there that are new and what your companies expect you to do when your not driving? |

| Buy screens Buy screens from any truckstop and fit them to your windows. A couple of oscillating fans will also help move the air through the truck to help keep you cool. Temperatures between 45 and 75 should be relatively comfortable in the truck with some bedding (sheet or blanket). For lower temps you could get a sleeping bag and/or a bunk warmer to stay warm. For the hot summer there really isnt much you can do other than idle. Years ago I saw drivers stringing hammocks under their trailer and sleeping underneath but between the bugs and urine smell at most truck stops (especially in the back) I would not advise this today.

| That and the thieves around truck stops... I wouldn't advise sleeping out in a truck stop, especially a city one eep. Most companies would love you to not idle but when push comes to shove depending on the outside temp you will need to. Just try to find one that has invested in APU's and you will be golden.

| My idle prcentage is sitting at .78% for the month right now and it is always a cool 70 degrees in my truck. This little APU I have is great. |

| if the company starts complaining abut you idleing then tell them why don't you switch me spots I sleep in your house you sleep in the truck. When hey tell you no it is too hot tell them exactly that is why I will be idleing. If the company does not like it then ask them were do you want your truck parked? Once you stand firm with the company about idleing they will usually leave you alone. I will not roast or freeze for any company just to save them money while all of them sit in a building with the ac or heat on. |
