I've picked up there in Ocala, before. Or maybe dropped off. Pretty sure I dropped off bridge beams in Jacksonville, then headed south, but I just can't remember where I picked up or what I picked up.

Ok, found the scanned image of the trip. There's a Georgia-Pacific down there that makes "Wood I-Beams". Simple load.

P.K.S. Hey, I'm kinda in the same boat you are. I've allready done alot of research on this and I can tell ya this. The companies to look at are, Roehl, Millis transfer, Central refrigerated, P.A.M., and Schneider. Hope that helps ya.

Yep. GP employs alot of people here, and at their other plant in Palatka. Such a lovely smelling place...

I've been looking at Schneider and casually at Central Refrigerated. I keep hearing Roehl mentioned and i've heard NOTHING but good stuff about them. Always.

What I'm leaning towards doing, since everyone's going towards my original post, is applying for F.A.F.S.A. (Since I'm an Independant Contractor, my taxes are just the kinda thing to ensure i'll get some kind of aid) and taking the Commercial Driving course at my local Community College.

There's still plenty of holes in that plan, I'm getting a copy of my taxes tomorrow to fill out the fafsa... 1) I need to get approved, and 2) I need to call the college and check if their course is the right kind of certification to sign up with alot of these companies.

ok i read you doing fafsa to try to do truck driving classes. WEll i tried that also and fafsa will not pay for it cause its a vocational or something like that. What you need to do is go to your local unemployment office and apply for Wia its a grant that will help you pay for training for new career i didn't do this i went with pam and they sent me thru driver solutions and i only pay 1000 dollars thru payroll deduction they pay rest long as i drive for them for a year. Hope this helps ya and good luck.

What I'm doing.

I'm not one to tell anyone what to do but. I'm going with Millis. Normally $500 to start but if you sign up with them before the end of the year it's only $100 to start. They start you at $500 a week with a trainer and it tops out at $700 a week with the trainer at 6 weeks. They have some of the best starting pay, $.32 per mile and great bonuses. If you get just 2000 miles in a week it's with a .03 per miles driven bonus. And they have a school in Cartersville GA. so it's not to far for ya. just look at there sight, it can tell ya alot.

srick773 when you get done with your training with millis and you go to orientation pay attention to the different pay plan they have. they have straight pay and per diem if you take take the per diem pay you will make .05 cents less per mile but .10 cents will be tax free. on straight pay you can add your days up at the and of the year and take it yourself. they also have short route and practical route they pay .02 cents more for the short route. also on per diem pay they will give you a week of vacation at six moths and another at a year on straight pay you have to wait a year to get your first week of vacation. just giving you heads up so you can think about which way you want to go.
