Monteagle is a cake walk compared to cabbage or the grapevine, i agree on donner. Its not that bad unless you are there on sunday afternoon and you got all the high rollers coming back from reno and lake tahoe, then it gets interesting with the 4 wheelers hitting their brakes all the time.

I-17 from flagstaff down into phoenix aint no picnic either, not bad but it can be decieving.

Lookout Mountain I90 in Idaho and Montana. Lewiston Grade in Idaho. White Bird in Idaho. Parlays Summit in Utah. Topanga Canyon, Tehachapi, Grapevine, east bound SR299 from Eureka to Redding, Ca if pulling doubles or under 65', Echo Summit US 50 from Tahoe to Placerville, CA if pulling doubles or under 65', (50 miles down hill), I15 west bound out of Vegas (18 miles 5% into Baker, CA--try it with 80 Gs in a cabover without jakes. Donner Summit. Wolf Creek Pass in Colorado, Vail coming out of the tunnel west bound I70. Raton Pass north bound I25 at the New Mexico/Colorado border. East bound I8 out of San Diego CA if your not paying attention. Mont Eagle, Fancy Gap, and Jelico back east if your not paying attention. Of all of these hills the Grapevine is the only place I've seen trucks in the sandbox. Two JB Hunts. One went to the top and rang the bell. Another followed him half way up. I am not joking. It's a fact. On another occasion a Stevens Transport made it to the top and ding! Thats a moving violation by-the-way. Failure to control your vehicle. I heard they also cite you if your brakes are out of adjustment. You know CHP. There gonna start rackin up the violations like they're punchin keys on a cash register. I allways made it a habit to keep my brakes adjusted. Not just eyeballin the gap between the drum n pad--actually turning snug the adjuster nut then backing it off a quarter turn. Good thing in the event the jake fails on a long down hill. All these hills offer a nice view of the country side allthough you should be focused first on the road. Enjoy the truckin life.

There's a rather nasty little one near Duluth/Superior. It's not big, not long, but I hear it can be a real b#*%$, especially in winter. I'd have to check that one with hubby later.

I agree the new monteagle isn't bad... but I was going to pipe in at the mention of not ever seeing any trucks in the gravel....

I spent three months running back and forth on that little stretch... and I saw atleast a dozen retards stuck in the trap, one up higher than I could believe you could get.

additionally I seldom went over without finding afore mentioned retard sitting at the bottom with his brakes burned up.

Its steep, but not that steep !!!!

I'm assuming guys that aren't used to the mountains must freak out and ride the brakes constantly to generate that kinda heat on such a short grade.
