Yes plenty of truck don't have jakes still. Also many have jakes these days that are about as useful as tits on a boar hog. I had a 07 Columbia w/ a mercedes engine and quite frankly think they would of been more useful if I would just put my foot on the ground and tried slowing it down.

I only got scared on Cabbage once. I was following three other trucks and the trailer from the middle truck started fishtailing severely. I thought he was gonna get tangled with the other 2 trucks and drag me into their accident. It was on snow and the guy lost a chain off one of his trailer tandems, causing it to slide. Luckily he was able to bring it under control before anything major happened. Needless to say, I passed those 3 trucks as fast as I could going downhill with my empty trailer. I didn't wanna stick around and become part of a pile-up.
