Methadone does not show up in a basic opiate test that is part of the standard pre-employment drug test and which can detect heroin, codeine and morphine (and perhaps oxycodone, hydrocodone, and dilaudid). A Methadone specific test must be performed to detect Methadone. This test is not uncommon and is part of the second tier "extended" test done by many companies. Do yourself a favor and be upfront with the company before they spend their money to test you...if they find it and you didn't tell them first, you are gone. Hiding the fact would mean that you are not trustworthy.
rabbiporkchop and flood Thank this. -
Direct from the FMCSA

Question 4: Is a driver who is taking prescription methadone qualified to drive a CMV in interstate commerce?
Guidance: Methadone is a habit-forming narcotic which can produce drug dependence and is not an allowable drug for operators of CMVs.rabbiporkchop, flood, FozzyNOK and 1 other person Thank this. -
If methadone is not allowed does that mean that people on other painkillers are prohibited from driving as well?
That doesn't make sense to me. -
well.. why not follow that link Roadmedic supplied and see what they say there? It's always best to go to the source anyway.
-
I did follow the link and it doesn't mention other pain medication. Does cover every medical condition and how you can still qualify eventually.
-
What pain medications?
In order to find out about the methadone, the easiest and quickest way was to google it. Typed methadone and dot
Try that with the pain meds. You will find there are limits to alot of them as well. -
WELL i HAVE TO DISAGREE with the question about methadone as i did research and the website states as follows:
WHAT DRUGS ARE TESTED FOR?
All urine specimens are analyzed for the following drugs:
Marijuana (THC metabolite)
Cocaine
Amphetamines
Opiates (including heroin)
Phencyclidine (PCP)
The testing is a two-stage process. First, a screening test is performed. If it is positive for one or more of the drugs, then a confirmation test is performed for each identified drug using state-of-the-art gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis. GC/MS confirmation ensures that over-the-counter medications or preparations are not reported as positive results
so as you can see that the test for methadone is not included in the test for the qualifications.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
It is not allowed under FMCSA regs.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
i couldn't post the source of my information as the forum said i need at least two posts to provide a link. well i'm making this post to be able to provide links
