Going much better!!

With some good advice from some members in here, my shifting has improved dramatically. I can shift up through the gears without the clutch, but the most of all my downshifting last night was much better. I watched my RPM's and speed, and I was able to downshift much better. Before I was having a pain finding 8th, last night I got it. Coming into the toll on the Mass Pike I was able to DS to 9th and then 8th. I did this several other times fairly smoothly. Pulling into the terminal, I shifted to 8th, then 7th, finally when in the lot I dropped it to 4th. So thanks to grizzly and rockee for their advice!!
Oh yeah, and I even backed it up between 2 TT's and only need 2 pullup's!

Dunno if I posted when you asked for help but one thing that helped me at first was I down shifted every gear.. gave me plenty of practice and allowed me to find the exact spot on the speedo I needed for each gear

Thats what I was doing with the tolls and exits, going from 10th-9th-8th and sometimes 7th. One thing I have to do is not be so quick to put it into gear. I rev up the RPM's to about 2000 and right away try down shifting to the next gear.

A simple tug to get it between gears, then a light pull against the next gear (not enough to grind) while bringing the rpm's up will work wonders.

The only time I bother to look at the tach, is on hills. Due to the rev/speed limiter on our trucks. A 10-9 shift will fall flat on my truck, if I try to downshift prior to the tach hitting 1200 rpm in 10th.

a simple one (put it into neutral) two (put it in gear) count should work.

My trainer taught me get 'er out( into neutral) get'er up( bump up rpms) and get'er in (into lower gear) when downshifting. Although it sounds a little risque, I never forgot it when I was downshifting.
