LTD and STD benefits question

(my apologies to the mods if this is in the incorrect forum)

The hubby just started with Celadon, and I started to read thru their benefits more carefully online.

I have a stupid question - (I'm sure he'd know the answer but you guys are easier to get ahold of today LOL - I'm sure you understand)

Question #1
How do you determine a truckers BASEPAY if they are paid per mile ?

I'm trying to determine how much coverage there would be under long and/or short term disability coverage for him. The STD was 50% of basepay and longterm was 60% .... doesn't seem like much.

Question #2
Wondering if there are options to up the coverage on disability? - i'm sure it depends on the company, but wondering if anyone out there knew offhand.

Question #3
Is there a forum dedicated to trucker benefits, pay, etc ? (if so, apologies, as i don't see it anywhere)

Jaz,As far as base pay, hoping he gets the miles, say he gets 3,000 miles per week and he gets 40 cents per mile, he grossed $1,200.00 x 52 weeks then he did $62,400 for the year.STD was included in my plan at no charge but LTD, I paid a percentage of my gross pay.My STD was limited to 180 days.My LTD was limited to 24 months to 48 months depending on age and condition.STD and LTD both paid 66 2/3% but with a reduction if I received third party benefits(SSI,workmanscomp.etc.or state disability).I never had the option to increase any of these payments, they were fixed by company policy.I did increase my life and accidental and dismemberment policy for a small charge. You may find an outside carrier to increase your monthly benefit but Celadon may decrease theirs by company contract showing a third party benefit. If Celadon offers these benefits for free or at small charge then take advantage of them. Some coverage is better than no coverage.

What the first responder said, AND

To determine base pay they will probably figure up your husband's weekly average earnings. If he averages $600 a week, you can figure his benefit from there.

Unless he drives a tanker with acid. Then he'd have acid pay on top of his base pay. One can only hope it's an endothermic reaction.

(sorry - ignore this. Bad chemist joke)
