The most common answer I've been told is to log it straight through..flag Daylight Savings at 2am, and as stated before, DOT will not question it. Of course the key phrase here is most common answer, as I have been told different answers by both DOT and safety for 2 different companies. :biggrin_25523:. I guess this is one night I am glad to be on elogs.

Hours of service issue, what happens when you work during the change on a day the clock rolls back or forward? If you are already on duty, the HOS 11,14 ,70 rule is the same as if you crossed a time zone. you log it as home time. The trick is to adjust your trip to account for the time change at your appointment the next day. If you forget, you could be one hour late. Late is late and the shipper/receiver could care less about failing to be there when scheduled. The Log Book will gain or lose an hour. the clocks will move forward or back an hour. The burden is then shifted on the driver to compensate for the variance in time. As a OTR Driver you are already use to losing and gaining time based on one thing, which direction your traveling, east or west. The term Jet Lag is often used to relate the adjustment you body must endure when traveling through multiple time zones. Example: Your origin is City of Industry, CA, The destination is Hartford, CT. the difference is three hours. Where do you think the time goes as you pass from zone to zone? POPMARTIAN is one of many Time Travelers, we can be in two time zones at the same time. Home Time as well as Local Time.:biggrin_25525:

    e-logs get it WRONG....!

reason is that the computer runs windows os so the computer time that the e-log is seeing changes in the fall at 02:00:30 then 1 sec later it sees 01:00:31. if you start driving at 00:45 and drive for 1 1/2 hr the e-log will show you stoped at 01:15 so it shows you only drove for 1/2 hr. same if you are on your 10 break the e-log will sow a 9hr break

A e-log isn't going to show a stop. It's going to split the time brackets. It does the same thing when you cross a time zone boundary or a state border, and when you drive through midnight (or noon depending on how your carrier keeps logs). It does this to keep track of your mileage per state/time zone/day.

    popmartian Thanks this.

    There's a question for everything. :)

I would drive your normal hours. You don't gain anything. Just flag 0200 saying daylight savings time plus one hour and the location. Then just adjust it at the end of the day recap and nobody will say a word.

You drove 10, but your line shows 9 but your total hours says 10. As it happens. Kapeesh?

Most of you's are in the truckstop by 5 pm anyways. :)

I stated this in another thread but I'll say it here too. DST doesn't affect your HOS. It affects the time you shut down at. If you started at midnight and drove straight through, you would run out of hours at 10am instead of 11am.
