Where to park the truck

Forgive my ignorance here but my husband just started driving truck about 2 weeks ago. Obviously this won't happen tomorrow but we're wondering what happens when he comes home with the truck and has to find a place to park it?

I'm assuming there is some well known secret you all keep as to where you guys park the trucks when you go home for a few days. Our neighborhood association may not allow us to park it in the neighborhood so do you guys park it at a rest stop, a trucker stop, where? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

A truck stop us usually a good idea. Very few residential neighborhoods allow rigs to be parked on the streets. There is usually a weight limit, and neighborhood associations are even worse!

About a dozen trucks park at McDonald's in Coloma, MI. On weekends, that lot fills up and the overflow parks at the antique mall. I parked behind a supermarket, but when I sold the truck I decided to work only for companies that had a terminal near my home town. As it turned out, one of those employers was so cheap that they parked trucks at abandoned terminals and vacant lots until they were kicked out. Eventually, they rented an office but there was still no truck parking. I am through with those fly-by-night "phone booth" companies.

Hello, yeah I agree with some of the other posters about this subject, try to find some abandoned parking lot or something while he will be on home time and then go by it often on your way to store or out to dinner or whatever! If you have read anything about how fierce home associations can be, stay away from the "c..." that can bring down on you! Good Luck to you

Having had experience some years ago with a covenanted community - where they were so anal that the curtains in back windows of the house had to match those in the front of the house. Heavens forfend if you want to own a <gasp> pickup truck! You weren't even allowed to park a car more than 5 years old in your drive way.

Since then, I've made it a point to never never never live in a covenanted community.

As a side effect, I can park anything I want in front of the house. Or next to it.

As far as truck stops... yeah, but I'd look for a nearby company terminal first, then, see if you can find cheap/free *secure* parking near the house (secure as in: behind a locked gate). I don't think you can be too paranoid...

Just my thoughts. Worth what you paid for them.

Thanks everyone for all the feedback. Much appreciated and very helpful. Yeah, I pretty much put the whole around our neighborhood out of my mind considering how uppity our neighbors. We'll do some checking and yes I can imagine you just can never be too paranoid. Many thanks.
