not getting cdl through a company- any advantages? hi all, first post. im currently about 400 miles from home, i took a temp job with a harvest crew cause they will and are helping me get my cdl, will be taking the test this week. I chose to do ths because i don't like the sounds of signing on with a company for a year and taking a gamble as to how well that year will be. I am currently looking for local jobs that might hire me with minimal experience, but i was curious as to if already having my cdl might help or hinder me if I went over the road (which i dont have much trouble with being gone) cause even though i can drive just fine, i feel like im missing out on the finer points of driving, no scales, no logbooks, etc. any suggestions?

yes it is an advantage, all you will need to do is go thru orientation and then spend some time with a trainer disadvantage is that you havent learned how to properly pretrip, secure loads, trip planning, log and do your other paperwork

Gravy, that is going to be a concern of mine. Log and QC. and Paperwork. I know hours of service and what not have changed since I drove. Never had sat. communications to worry about. Have to find a book on the hours thing to bone up on.
