I just can not believe that you people worry about the transmissions and colors of a truck when looking for work. How about benefits and pay or how long you stay out? How about what you will have in the way of retirement when you can not drive any longer? How many miles do they average a week, is the company safety minded, or do they have bad numbers with the FMCSA? So on and so on. You're going to end up saying 'Wow I made $300 last week with my 13 speed pretty truck".

When I worked for them we had 3 on our account and 1st of this yr me and 2 other drivers bob tailed to Indy to return them to the O/C there. I wasnt told if it was to retire them or if they were going into the system pool. It was the 1st time I ever seen an auto let alone drive 1. Lets just say I green horned it 3 times before I got off the yard. The 300 mile adventure to Indy was 299.5 miles more than I needed to realize Ill never drive another.

Those are the only colors that I know of that are full blooded pumpkins, but when I went through training we asked why they all werent state orange? that didnt go well, we got a brief lecture on "thats Schneiders patented color" :biggrin_25524: Anyways pumpkin legend has it that the are several different colors assigned to different accounts. IDK whos what but say Target requires red trucks they take all the trucks for the account and paint em red. I do think the black 1s are sharp though

I have asked about the type of trans for one reason....If you are new to over the road and go with a company with autos you would not have the skills companies would look for later down the road when you want to go regional or local with another company.

My truck is no prize pig! It's got faded paint, major road rash, duct tape holding the right side vent window closed, duct tape holding panels on the dash on. It just turned 934k on the original engine. As long as the truck runs and I can get the miles and get my wife a check every week, I'm happy. I get home every week to do my reset and get 2400-3000 miles a week.

The only problem right now is a communication problem between the speed sensor, transmission and ecm that's causing speedometer and shifting problems. Hopefully Freightshaker will figure it out so we can get back to making money.

That being said, I wouldn't turn down a nice W900 or Classic XL, lol!

    Everett and GasHauler Thank this.

I would avoid an auto. You risk similar problems like mine if the data links go down and the speed sensor feed goes out. In my truck, I ended up driving it like a 5 speed because I wasn't able to split the gears (its a lightning Top 2) and the top 2 would get stuck in either 9 or 10. The autos use a similar wiring system and if it goes down, the auto won't shift at all because it needs the speed sensor feed in order to shift. You will have to come to a stop and hope you can reset the computer so you can limp to a shop.

Nothing wrong will getting a new truck. You've worked your way through so you deserve it.

So if that's the only job offer you get and they only have autos you're going to turn them down right?
