    Lot Lizard Free Truck Stops?

Okay I am still in Truck School and am reading this crazy thread on "lot lizards". Is there any way to figure out if a particular truck stop would have problems with this before pulling in? Would Flying J's have this going on?

The reason why I ask is that since prostitution is illegal in most areas, more serious crimes can be surrounding it, much like in the drug trade. Also I am in a good relationship and really do not want to put up with solicitations every time I have to pull in to sleep.

My husband has been OTR for 4 years now and the lot lizzard problem isnt that big of deal, or at least it hasnt been for us....I know of 5 times someone has knocked on his door. Breezewood PA used to be pretty busy but since the Idleair went in that has quietd down somewhat.

IF someone knocks on your door all ya gotta do is shake your head no. Its not like there are women all over the parking lot in large groups. There used to be a thread here about some more popular spots for lizards, one I think was down by Atlanta...and I know Lake Station IN used to be a popular one too. I am sure once some of the drivers get a chance they will beable to tell you about the current "hot spots".

As for your relationship LL's are no threat to that, unless of course you do business with them.

It's not going to be that way at most places.

You'll quickly learn which ones to avoid. The learning process will take even less time, if you use your CB to talk to other drivers along the way.

Flying J may have the worst food and buffet in the world. But, they have more "hooker free" locations than most truck stops.

PS... Hookers aren't a sign of high criminal activity. Unless they're Crack Ho's

The crack heads are relentless. The "normal" hookers, if you can call them that, may advertise on the radio. But few go knocking on doors.

Once you see a few of them, and you will. You'll quickly know the differance.

Thank you for the responses and clearing up some of the sensationalism that is in the Lot Lizard thread.

Re. truck stop with no lot lizards:

Perry Como sang about that back in the late 50's or early 60's. The name of the song was:

"Dream On Little Dreamer, Dream On".

Anytime there is a need, some one will try and fill the void. Most drivers lack female companionship while on the road, so some will try and make money on that.

Like most crime, it fills a need.

The only truck stops where I have seen lot lizards or been bothered by them was the T/A in Laredo, TX, West Memphis Truck stops, and the Pilot in Atlanta off of 285 on the south side (can't remember exit number as I have erased that truck stop from my book with a permanent black marker). The pilot incident.... I couldn't find a spot to park so I decided to leave and as I was driving down the side road this blond crack head ##### lot lizard flashed her ##### at me. I wanted to throw up or pick my eyes out because I was stopped for traffic and could not move and she was about to climb up on the passenger side till I showed her my trusty hammer I have stored in my side pocket... she got the picture.

Its not really bad but I have found that the closer to a big city you get the bigger the problem is.. even then some of the bigger cites have cracked down on it so they are not bad and I have never been bothered while sleeping.

Yep that Pilot on the South East side is exit 51 on 285. It is by far the worst truckstop I have seen during my short time on the road. The sad part is my terminal is about 1/2 mile from there. I drive by there all the time it is terrible, my wife wont even take the road beside it because all the people standing along the road staring you down as you drive by. She goes around the block to get there. Avoid this place at all cost.

    Suggestion

Just as a suggestion, their is a (NO LOT LIZARD) sticker available.
You can find them at some of the truckstops they sell for like $4.00

You put them in the vent window on the doors. I have noticed once I put them up they don't even knock on the windows anymore.

But as mentioned keeping the doors locked anywhere you won't have much problem in the stops...........

Good Luck on school and welcome to the industry.............

Another way to sent a message to the lizards is to put a wet wipe out side your door. That tells the lizards that your currently occupied with someone else LOL.. But be careful my trainer did this and when he woke up his antenna wires were cut...
