Besides, who doesn't work 24 hours a day 7 days a week? I don't know about you, but pretty much every thing I do is either work, or preparation for work. Heck, sleeping is preparation for the next days work. |

| 52*800= 41600. Though realistically, there is a slow season, when you're not going to get as many miles a week, but you still easily make well over 30k. When did 30k become barely getting by? when u made 90k the yr before... |

Myself personally, I have no wife, no girlfriend, no college, a crap job that I hate, & I love driving. I will especially love not having a stupid boss looking over my shoulder. My cousin works for CRST, he's been there for over two years and he's making over $55k a year. He's exactly like me almost to the T and he loves It overall, he says theres ups and downs but he'll take it over any job he's qualified for. He also said that every year he gets raises and better routes so he will make more and more money. He gets...2 weeks vacation, sick days, medical, dental, vision, 401k, profit sharing, ect ect. This job Is not for everyone, especially family people. It lets alot of people down who've wanted this their whole lives. I have family In this business and have gone on the runs so I pretty much know what to expect & It sure beats working for Target or some crap like that. Best of luck new readers! ~Chris Oh I almost forgot...My cousin also tells me that alot of these drivers on these forums that claim they hate this job and tell you not to bother are just trying to keep you out so the Industry has less drivers, though some are serious about hating It though....This is just what he says, he's no expert but I would at least give It a shot before turning away, because then you will never know.... | I personally would like to see people go back to helping each other.. The other day I pulled into a truck stop and noticed a flatbed driver trying to get his tarp tied back down, wind was blowing and blowing and the guy had been there for about 40 minutes trying to get it.. There was several drivers sitting in their trucks just watching him and he even said a few walked right by... This is just nonsense, I can't believe people are like that nowadays.. I mean what is it to jump out for 10 minutes to help a guy tarp his load? sorry but that just ticked me off (still does thinking about it) We had his load tarped in 10 minutes and the guy wanted to pay me for helping him, I laughed and told him no way would I take any money, I asked just return the favor someday to somebody else.. That's what makes trucking not so enjoyable, the lack of respect people have for each other.. I truly believe you get whats coming to you and those people who just watched that man will get paid the same favor.. Ah anyways guess this is a little of subject.. later... |

| I worked as a Cable Tech too I worked as a Cable Tech too and quit to work in the Oil-Fields as a floor hand. The Oil-Field paid better, was less stressful "if your on a good crew" and I had allot more time off. As a "Cable Guy" I worked 12-14 hour days crawling in attics and crawl spaces in the dirt and dealing with home owners at their homes. They always wanted to watch also I had long hair "Neil Young Type" and some seemed to think they had to keep a close eye on me if you know what I mean, and some that just wanted to sit and watch and Cable Tech's had it hard in 1the 90s because the good pay went to thewayside because of immigration from South of the Border. A cable installer used to be able to make good $ until that happened. I just hope this industry saves face with what's happening now. The Unions are always the ones doing the dirty work and facing real issues that matter like this. I think I'll do my best to become a Union member in the Trucking industry as it seems to be one where you need someone always watching your back.

| wndrwtr, You always watch your back to stay alive but it helps to have friends watching your back too. Like a football team. What turnip truck did you fall from?
