They were trying hard to hire me. They told me they had 250 trucks available. Seems like the math works out on that if they just laid off 250 drivers. I heard from someone out on the road that the government is giving companies a stimulus kick back for every driver they hire. If that is true that would explain why they are still hiring even though we have nothing to haul.

I've read earlier posts about TMC percentage pay and one thing that stuck with me is the deadheading will not make you any money.

I've read numerous times that mileage is better than percentage.

TMC has not laid off 250 drivers. They have 250 trucks available because they did not fill the new 2009 trucks that they purchased during the last three months, mostly due to the ULSD requirements. Those trucks have been sitting empty. TMC has seen an increase in freight during just the last two weeks and had several inquiries from potential customers. With other companies scared to add drivers or just plain shutting down TMC is going to fill the gap like they always do.

It would seem to me that it makes good business for any company in any industry to rid itself of employees that are non-productive.

you can only be as productive as the freight will allow..

Its not driver non- productivity...its a no freight issue...

There is just no freight...so to me T.M.C. Is unproductive..

If thats the case why would i even consider going somewhere and signing on to a company with no freight or loads? Why would i want to work somewere knowinglly there is no product to move..ask yourself that?

because if they do not have the customer base you will work cheap and be sitting for days waiting on a load..its simple...

why do you think i am at home know? no loads,no work...and the work that is there is dirt cheap and i refuse to haul dirt cheap loads to make a profit of .20 cents a mile...simple.i will go broke first..

:biggrin_25525:INSTEAD OF LAYING OFF DRIVERS TELL THEM TO LAY OFF THE C.E.O'S. LMAO:biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525:

by unproductive i mean high out of route, bad fuel mileage, late picking up and delivering because of mis management of time, bad customer interaction. TMC bases pay scale on these things, a system developed with their drivers. They also have big accounts so they can get the loads. The thing with TMC is they have rules and they expect you to follow them, thats how you make money with them.

what i am trying to say is this...

With the economy ready to crash and (it will).you and i and others need to position our selves with a carrier, company etc.etc.etc. That has mass amounts of loads actually being shipped....

We can not go somewere based on how much money will i make...that thinking has to be smashed....

In the times were in i would pick someone with solid proof that they have drivers turning 3000 miles a week or more..

If they have a record for me to see that drivers are staying busy then yes, sign the dotted line...

What good is .40 cents a mile when you are getting 1800 miles a week in a span of 7 days..its not good...it sucks.

I agree, was just clarifing the nonproductive drivers being laid off. Lot of companies put on a hiring freeze, many drivers and fleet managers at TMC think they should also, even with the high turnover they have.
